グループ概要

Welcome!

We are a tight-knit group of people from different backgrounds who love to move their body, and explore its hidden potential. Some of us have done Yoga, Aikido, Jiujitsu, Kickboxing, Grappling and more. But all of us share a love of seeing how far we can unlock our potential.

Our practice is based on the curriculum of a modern Japanese martial art, Aunkai, which is derived from the training methods used in several Koryu or traditional Japanese schools of sword and empty handed arts.

While we study all the fun stuff including, strikes, takedowns, joint-locks and more, we focus largely on examining the nuances of what really makes these techniques work.

In addition to the regular Aunkai curriculum, the Intelligent Fitness section introduces exercises to make it easier for beginners to hit the ground running, and includes solo conditioning (body connection developing) that can be done at home.

Ultimately while we drill down into the deeper aspects of what makes Aikido, Yoga, Taichi, Koryu and more "work", we also place a high importance on having fun!

We often hold group hiking activities, excursions and conduct private seminars with the founder of the Aunkai, Akuzawa Minoru.

For those that develop a keener interest in the official Aunkai curriculum, the group leader, Rob, is one of the first students of Akuzawa Minoru and a certified Hanshi in the Aunkai, authorized to teach the deeper levels of Akuzawa Minoru's innovative system.

Akuzawa Minoru is a much acclaimed martial artist who regularly travels around the world to teach other instructors of various systems, helping them to take their skills to a high level. For more information on him, and the Aunkai, see the following video:

Bujutsu x iFit: Exploring Traditional Japanese arts for Hints in Body and Mind

Beginners welcome! Forge your body, connect your mind. The traditional martial arts of Japan contained wisdom in how to both develop the body, and control the mind. We are a study group practicing a martial art known as Aunkai. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pxfJijfG20 The founder Akuzawa Minoru, is well known for his skill in Aiki/Internals, and open nature. A former competitive gymnast and amateur kickboxing champion, he turned his eyes to traditional arts after meeting a master of one of the Yagyu traditions. Not content to simply sit and "recreate" the skills of old, he continues to innovate and see how far he can push the internal skills inherent in Japanese martial arts. If the above sounds super serious... Fear not, while we follow the curriculum outlined by Akuzawa, we are focused on having FUN! We take a different look at conventional power and speed, and teach how to harness "internal forces" in your body. If you ever wondered exactly how the really adept traditional teachers pull off seemingly incredible feats - this is the class to join. Our members are here to expand their physical and mental horizons, coming from a wide variety of backgrounds. Please note, we have a special LINE group where members can be kept up to date of schedule changes. Most members announce their attendance here and not on Meetup. If you would like to be added, feel free to ask us when you attend! iFit is attached to the Aunkai, a Modern Koryu Bujutsu, founded by Akuzawa Minoru, and hosts special classes with him on occasion. Rob, who hosts the classes, is a Hanshi within the Aunkai, and when not hanging out with members at iFit at the local cafe, can occasionally be found giving seminars in different countries. YouTube Videos: Montage of a special class in Hong Kong https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2ujrlEYt9I Interview with the host https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZCggMUSVFs Documentary by Guillaume Erard (Aikido 5th Dan), featuring our Mentor Akuzawa Minoru: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pxfJijfG20 More details below: Benefits: -Improved posture and health -Reprogramming our nervous system to handle stress and injury -Learn better movement habits. -Generally addicting skills, and we take no responsibility if you find yourself trying them out in public We kindly ask for a 1000 yen contribution to cover the studio and lesson fee.
