Mt. Kawanori (川苔山) and Hyakuhiro waterfall hike

Mt. Kawanori (川苔山), standing at 1,363m, is one of Okutama’s local favorites — a beautiful long ridge hike that rewards you with shady streams, lush green forest, a stunning waterfall, and sweeping summit views across the Okutama mountains.
The highlight on the way up is Hyakuhiro-no-taki (百尋の滝) — a 40-meter high waterfall hidden deep in the valley that’s extra refreshing in summer. The trail follows mountain streams, crosses rustic bridges, and winds up a shady forest ridge before opening up to a panoramic peak — the perfect mix for anyone craving a full forest adventure near Tokyo.

• Date: Saturday, July 26th, 2025
• Meeting Point: Kawanori-bashi Bridge bus stop (川苔橋バス停) at 9:00 AM
• We’ll take Bus #21 together from Okutama Station at 8:35 AM to Kawanori-bashi Bridge (~20 mins).
• Distance: ~15 km
• Hiking Time: ~6 hours 40 minutes
• Difficulty: Intermediate — steady climb, rocky/uneven sections
• Route: Kawanori-bashi → Hyakuhiro Falls → Mt. Kawanori summit → descend to Hotonosu Station
• Finish: Take JR Ome Line back to Tokyo from Hotonosu Station.

### 🚉 How to Get There from Tokyo:

1️⃣ Take the JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku Station to Ome Station
2️⃣ Transfer at Ome Station to the JR Ome Line to Okutama Station

• Suggested: Depart Shinjuku around 6:30 AM, arrive Okutama Station by 8:24 AM
  3️⃣ From Okutama Station, take Bus #21 at 8:35 AM to Kawanori-bashi Bridge bus stop (~20 mins)
  ✅ Important: Be on time — weekend buses can get crowded!

### What to Bring:

✔ Good hiking shoes (trail can be muddy/slippery)
✔ 1.5–2L water
✔ Packed lunch & snacks
✔ Rain jacket (weather changes fast)
✔ Hat, sunscreen
✔ Small towel (for sweat or streams)
✔ Trash bag (take all rubbish back!)

### 💰 Participation Fee:

1,000 yen (paid in cash or via PayPay at Kawanori-bashi Bridge bus stop before start of the hike)
