When Ki No Ronin gets up, he looks over towards the Bow and sees Koshin-San busily playing the Craps Dice game with Sakurazawa-San and Shimizu-San. It seems Koshin-San is working hard at obeying Nobunaga Sensho-San command that he learn the Craps Dice game to heart and is playing it almost religiously.

Then the Hirugohan Lunch Bell is rung and everyone gets their Bowls of Gohan Steamed Rice and a Somosa with Curry Spice to go with it. As per the Captains command, Koshin-San and Yoshida-San only get Assari Shita Gohan Plain Steamed Rice.

There is not much chatting or talk during the eating of Lunch. The atmosphere of the Kawa Shima Maru is somewhat subdued since the incident the night before. It all seems to have caused a major rift of unsocialness between the Kawa Shima Maru Crewmembers and the four Kishu Shima Maru Crewmembers.

After Hirugohan Lunch, the Crew is put to work doing some Maintenance and Cleaning of the Kawa Shima Maru and that takes about an hour or so. Then after that, they are all gather on the Quarter Deck and they practise Zen Meditation for another hour. During the Meditation, the 8 Precepts of living a Good Peaceful Life is recited over and over several times which goes:

1. May I be well, happy and and peaceful.
May no harm come to me.
May no difficulties come to me.
May no problems come to me.
May I always meet with success.
May I also have patience, courage,
understanding and determination
to meet and overcome inevitable
difficulties, problems and
failures in life.

2. May my Relatives be well, happy and
peaceful.
May no harm come to them,
May no difficulties come to them,
May no problems come to them,
May they always meet with success.
May they also have patience, courage,
understanding and determination
to meet and overcome inevitable
difficulties, problems and
failures in life

3. May my teachers be well, happy and peaceful.
May no harm come to them
May no difficulties come to them,
May no problems come to them.
May they always meet with success.
May they also have patience, courage,
understanding and determination
to meet and overcome inevitable
difficulties, problems and
failures in life.

4. May my friends be well, happy
and peaceful.
May no harm come to them
May no difficulties come to them,
May no problems come to them.
May they always meet with success.
May they also have patience, courage
understanding and determination
to meet and overcome inevitable
difficulties, problems and
failures in life.

5. May all indifferent persons be well, happy and peaceful.
May no harm come to them,
May no difficulties come to them,
May no problems come to them,
May they always meet with success.
May they also have patience, courage,
understanding and determination
to meet and overcome inevitable

May no harm come to them,
May no difficulties come to them,
May no problems come to them,
May they always meet with success.

to meet and overcome inevitable
difficulties, problems and
failures in life.

8. May all living beings be well, happy and peaceful.

May no difficulties come to them,
May no problems come to them,
May they always meet with success.
May they also have patience, courage,
understanding and determination
to meet and overcome inevitable
difficulties, problems and
failures in life.

After that, they did some Tai Chi Exercises practising the Martial Arts moves they may need if they should have to defend the Kawa Shima Maru from attack.

And just before Bangohan Dinner, they set up the KyOdo Archery Range and did about an hour of Archery Practise.

And for the next few days, they just sailed along with a good steady 15 Knot Wind with good clear Skies and Weather. The atmosphere of the Kawa Shima Maru continued to be rather subdued. After the Fighting incident, the moral of the Crew had been somewhat subdued and that actually got Nobunaga Sensho-San a bit worried. He had always liked running a ship with good Comraderie and Moral.

It was during the fourth day of this, when they were in the middle of the daily maintenance and cleaning of the Decks that Nobunaga Sensho-San called Yoshimune ShOko-San and Ki No Ronin up onto the Bridge and dismissed the Helmsmen. While manning the Wheel himself, Nobunaga Sensho-San said quietly, "Kawa Shima Maru no Shiki wa mo Sukoshi ni Kanashii Desu. Yoi na Shiki wa Tsukuritai Desu. Kangae wa Suisen Shimasu ka?".

Both Yoshimune ShOko-San and Ki No Ronin bow obediantly to Nobunaga Sensho-San and both replied, "Hai! Omotteitai Desu".

Nobunaga Sensho-San replies, "Hai. Omottekudasai Dozo".

Ki No Ronin then started to think of a way to increase Crew Morale. It was past Go Getsu Itsuka, so doing a Children's Festival was out of the question and the next Festive occasion was not until Kyu Getsu when there is the KeirO no Hi Respect for the Aged Festival and Nobunaga Sensho-San needs to hear ideas that might help sooner than that.

Ki No Ronin was still thinking of something when Yoshimune ShOko-San suggests, "Takusan Getsu kan mo mae ni Monogatari Gemu wa Asobimasen Deshita. Ashita Kyujitsu wa Shimasho soshite kono Gemu wa tabun Asobimasu", suggesting that they have not played the Story Telling Game for a long time and maybe they should hold a Holiday Day for Relaxing and play the Story Telling Game. That might get Morale going again.

Nobunaga Sensho-San then thought about it for a bit and then nodded in agreement. "Hai. Asu kono Kangae wa Shite Mitei Masho. Ju Ichi Nichi ni kono Ansen no Basho ni Suru wa Owari soshite kono Gemu wa Asobimasho", saying that by the 11th of the month, the punishments the two sailors are serving will be over and they could try having a Holiday Day Off for the Crew and they could play the Story Telling Game that Yoshimune suggests.

After finishing their Officers Meeting, Nishihara-San is called back to man the Helm Wheel and they carry on with their days routines.

For the next few days, they sail along doing their daily routines of practicing Martial Arts, Meditating, and doing Ship Maintenance when the evening of Go Getsu Ju Nichi comes. They have still had a bit of morale problem still and after Bangohan Dinner, Nobunaga Sensho-San gathers all the crew together and announces, "Kombanwa Funenori-nin. Ashita Kyujitsu Desu. Ashita Shooji Chorishi-San wa Yasumeru koto ga Dekimasu. Ikuto-San wa tabemono ga Ryori Shimasho. Ashita Koshin-San soshite Yoshida-San wa futsu na tabemono wa Taberu koto ga Dekimasu. Kono hito no ansen no basho wa Owari Desu. Ashita Hirogohan no ato ni Monogatari Gemu wa Asobimasho. Dewa minna hito wa Kutsu Rogu Suru koto ga Dekimasu", saying that tomorrow afternoon will be a day of relaxation and that everyone including Shooji Chorishi-San will have the day off and that they will all be play the Story Telling Game that they have not played for a long time.

At this announcement, everyone nods happily and starts looking foward to the day of relaxation.

After the announcement, Ki No Ronin goes to his Bunk and gets his needed rest for his Night Watch. When he gets up, he finds that Ikuto-San is being shown where everything is in the Chorishitsu Galley of the Kawa Shima Maru so that he can do the Cooking during day of Relaxation during which Shooji-San will be able to have a good day to rest from his constant responsibilities of having to Cook, Clean and do Maintenance. Of course, Ikuto-San was the Cook for the Kishu Shima Maru and he is looking forward to having a day to practise his old trade which he actually enjoyed. Ki No Ronin, who has skilled in doing Repairs and Maintenance will do Shooji-San job for the day doing any required Maintenance. Shooji-San is especially happy about the next day of Relaxation since he has not had a day off for a long time. The next days activities is going to be called "Kutsu Rogu na O-Matsuri".

Ki No Ronin then organizes his Night Watch Crewmen and goes up on deck and takes their positions for the Watch. Saimoto-San takes the Crow's-Nest and Aoki-San and Koshin-San are on the Quarter Deck doing any Maintenance that Ki No Ronin directs. Ikuto-San is manning the Helm. Every hour, they switch off positions so that boredom does not settle in.

They are sailing along through the Night when they hear a strange loud splooshing sound of the Starboard Bow. At this time, it is Ikuto-San who is up in the Crow's-Nest and when the sound comes, Ki No Ronin shouts up, "Kono Oto wa Nani Desu ka?".

Ikuto-San is looking, The Moon is less than a quarter leaving and has been Waning, so there is not much Light coming from the Moon to see with, so Ikuto-San can not see what is making the sound, so he replies, "Sumimasen. Kurai Desu. Miru koto ga Dekimasen".

They still hear the splashing about when there is a slight bump up against the Starboard side. Both Koshin-San and Saimoto-San, who are on the Quarter Deck, rush over to see what is making the sound. The look over and discover that it appears to be a Giant Black Whale. They take some Torches and shine it over the side to see what is bumping up against the Kawa Shima Maru. They see that the Giant Creature that is there seems to have no blow hole. They can hear some voices and commotion down below in the Orlop Deck and then both Nobunaga Sensho-San and Yoshimune ShOko-San have come up with three other Funenori-nin Crewmen who are armed with Yari Spears. They still look a bit sleepy.

They go over and look over the side of the Kawa Shima Maru and it is Nobunaga Sensho-San who realizes what is it, "Kore wa Okii na Kujaku Fuka Desu", saying that it is the legendary Whale Shark. He steps back and puts up a reassuring hand and says, "Abunai de nai. Kujaku Fuka wa Futsu na Niku wa Tabemasen. Kore wa Yasashii na Okii na Sakana Desu. Watashi tachi wa tabun ima Mitemiteimasu". Nobunaga Sensho-San goes on to explain that this creature is a giant type of Shark that actually has not sharp teeth and has been found to eat only small Shiba Ebi Shimp and Plankton and is actually a Gentle Giant of the Oceans. It might have happened upon the Kawa Shima Maru and might be simply using the sides of the ship to rub itself up against in order to releave an itch or something and that if they do not hurt the Whale Shark, then the Whale Shark will not hurt the Kawa Shima Maru and may even swim alongside the Kawa Shima Maru for a couple of days until it gets bored with us, or gets hungry and goes off in search of some of its type of Food.

For a while they look over the side and observe the Whale Shark which is still rubbing itself up against the sides of the Kawa Shima Maru. Who knows, with this creature rubbing itself up against the side of the ship, some of the Barnacles and growth on the underside of the ship might get cleaned off.

Then Nobunaga Sensho-San says, "Mada Taikutsu na Desu. Mo ichi do Nemuritai Desu", and motions Yoshimune ShOko-San and the three Crewmen to follow him down into the Orlop Deck to get back to sleep. Ki No Ronin can hear the Captain informing the rest of the Crewmen down below about what is happening and that there is nothing to fear. Actually, with his large variety of Shark swimming gently alongside of the Kawa Shima Maru, it will be like having a large friendly Guard Dog alongside. No other large Seamonster that might threaten the Kawa Shima Maru will come close since there there is a large Whale Shark nearby because all other creatures, including even the Great Right Whale, are inherently afraid of all types of Sharks. So to have this Whale Shark come along is actually a Blessing rather than anything else.

So for the rest of the night, nothing else happens other than the occasional sound of this Whale Shark rubbing itself up agains the side of the Kawa Shima Maru. By 6:00am Wake Up Bell, the Whale Shark is still there and everyone gets to come up on deck and see for themselves what is swimming alongside them. This is a good experience since encounters with Whale Sharks are very rare and it was actually only Nobunaga Sensho-San who had seen one before and was therefore able to recognize. He knew that if they harmed it with Yari Spears, it would become Angry and would have attacked and possibly damaaged the Kawa Shima Maru. All they have to do is leave it alone, and it wont harm them or their ship.

So this morning, the Punishment Period for the two Sailors who fought is over so everyone gets the same Asagohan Breakfast, which is Maguro Sushi with Two Samosas and a whole nicely sliced up Mango. Ikuto-San has prepared it and it comes out nicely done. Shooji Chorishi-San does not come out of his Bunk but instead stays there as since it is his official Kyujitsu Day Off, he has decided to start it off by Sleeping in well into the afternoon.

After Asagohan Breakfast, Ki No Ronin goes back to his Bunk to get his Rest after his Night Watch althought "Kutsurogu na O-Matsuri". There is the sound of revellry as well as the occasional bump against the side of the Kawa Shima Maru as the Whale Shark still is alongside using the Ship scratch itself with.

So he gets up early and finds that everyone is sitting about the Ship in a relaxed fashion and some are playing Games, including Koshin-San, who has in the past few days gotten to be an expert at the Craps Dice Game that was the source of the arguement. As a matter of a fact, he has gotten to be quite a Yokuzuna Champion at it, winning about 3 out of 4 games now.

After getting to the Quarter Deck, Ki No Ronin sees that Toranaga-San is up in the Crow's-Nest. Seeing at Kutsurogu na O-Matsuri is mainly for increasing the Crew's Morale, Ki No Ronin turns to Nobunaga Sensho-San and says, "Sumimasen Nobunaga Sensho-San. Toranaga-San wa Mauto no ue ni Miteimasu. Kono Funenori-nin no Shiki wa Kaizen Irimasu. Kono Masuto no naka ni Watashi wa Ikitai Desu dekara kyo no O-Matsuri no naka ni Toranga-San wa Sanka Suru koto ga Dekimasu". Nobunaga Sensho-San agrees with Ki No Ronin going up to the Crow's-Nest so that Toranaga-San can participate in the Kutsurogu na O-Matsuri so replies, "Hai. Masuto no Ikite Kudasai, Dozo".

So Ki No Ronin climbs up the rope ladder to the Crow's-Nest and says to Toranaga-San, "Kono Kutsurogu na O-Matsuri wa ima Sanka Suru koto ga Dekimasu. Takusan Tanoshimi ni Asobette Kudasai, Dozo". Toranaga-San bows appreciatively to Ki No Ronin and climbs out of the Crow's-Nest and starts going down the rope ladder while Ki No Ronin gets into the Crow's-Nest and starts watching.

From there, Ki No Ronin can see a long way out to Sea now. He can not see the Whale Shark still swimming around the Kawa Shima Maru occasionally rubbing itself up against the Ship. Ki No Ronin also gets to see various Crewmen on the Quarter Deck doing as they feel like. Some are Sun Tanning themselves, some areplaying the Dice Game and some are playing Torampu Cards as well. One Crewmen, Yamazaki-San, has gotten out his Flute and is playing a couple of tunes.

This is going on when the time for Lunch comes along and Ikuto-San has brought up something that is his specialty. It is Yaki Buta Niku Gohan Pork Fried Rice flavored with Chilli Sauce and everyone is allowed an issue of 3 Samosas and all the Mangos that they can eat. Samosas is a food that does not keep well, so today, Captain Nobunaga Sensho-San has authorized a triple issue of Samosa Rations in order to get them eaten up before they go bad. The Samosas also come with Hot Curry Dipping Sauce, which most Japanese enjoy.

Ki No Ronin looks out upon the Sea and sees nothing of any threat except for the Whale Shark, which still is Swimming around the Kawa Shima Maru. Ki No Ronin notes that although the Kawa Shima Maru is going at best possible speed with full sail, the Whale Shark easily goes twice the speed. It looks as though the Wooden Hull of the Kawa Shima Maru is making a great scratching post to the Whale Shark and is also attracting a lot of small sealife, which the Whale Shark is also eating. It might look like they have inherited the Whale Shark as sort of Pet as it seems to be having the same sort of relationship with the Kawa Shima Maru as one of the Pilot Fish that follows along with most Sharks. Pilot Fish is a type of Fish that follows Sharks as their Cleaning Companions, eating the little bits of food that the Shark leaves behind and actually helps the Shark by eating Sea Lice and other Dirt off of the Shark. As with most other Sharks, this Whale Shark has a small school of Pilot Fish following it around, and now the Whale Shark is following the Kawa Shima Maru around.

Ki No Ronin looks down and finds that it is only Nobunaga Sensho-San who is on duty on the Bridge with Yoshimune ShOko-San himself manning the Helm. Everyone else is enjoying their Kutsurogu na O-Matsuri.

After a while, Yamazaki-San goes to the center of the Quarter Deck below the Main Mast and starts playing a tune on his Flute that is the type of song that is played for a Japanese Circle Dance, and several Sailors who hear this get up and start doing the Traditional Circle Dance. A couple of other Sailors actually get out a couple of small Drums that they have on board and start playing alongside Yamazaki-San who starts to Sing along with the Music. They seem to be having a good time doing the Traditional Japanese Circle Dance.

http://www.youtube.co...

After a while of enjoying doing that, Nobunaga Sensho-San suggests that it might be fun to start the Story Telling Game. All the Sailors agree and they all then sit in a Circle on the Quarter Deck and with Yamazaki-San still playing his Flute softly to provide some atmosphere for the Story, they start the Story Telling Game.

It is at this point that Ki No Ronin comes down from the Crow's-Nest and Yoshimune ShOko-San goes up and takes over. Ki No Ronin now takes the Helm.

All the Crew have formed themselves into a Circle around the Main Mast and with the Flute softly playing in the background, they start the Story Telling Game.

It starts with Shimizu-San:
There was a village north of Sasebo called Sui Tachi Bana which is having their Celebration Of Life O-Matsuri called Itadori O-Matsuri. It is the Celebration of a Plant that grows around their community that is an important source of Food for the community. The local Samurai Ueyama-San and his family have gotten up that morning and have gotten ready for the O-Matsuri. He has a beautiful wife Noriko-San and they have two lovely children Yoshi-Chan and Yukiko-Chan.

Fujii-San continues:
The leave their Uchi House and are going along the road to the center of their town where the Itadori O-Matsuri is taking place. As they go, a few more Japanese people join them and follow behind them on their way. Quite a few more children have gathered and all the children form a line, with Yoshi-Chan and Yukiko-Chan being in the lead. While walking along, they all play tag games and laugh and giggle to themselves.

Koshin-San continues:
When they get to the site of the O-Matsuri, they find all the Tents set up and they are awaiting for Ueyama-San to arrive to officiate over the O-Matsuri's Opening Ceremony. He is the highest ranking Samurai in this small village, so they can not start the O-Matsuri without him. He gets up onto the Gekijo Stage and makes a Blessing in the name of the name of the Daimyo of Nagasaki Prefecture.

Katayama-San continues:
Not wanting to delay the enjoyment of the O-Matsuri, Ueyama-San does not make his speech long and concludes by doing a ceremonial sprinkling of Shio Salt around the site of the Itadori O-Matsuri. As soon as this is done, a group of Taiko Drummers take the stage and start preforming their Drumming.

Nishihara-San continues:
Ueyama-San goes and gathers his family with the children eagerly wanting to go to the Children's Tent in order to participate in the various Art & Crafts activities that they have laid on for the children. The local school Kyoshi Teacher is attending the Children's Tent with a couple of helpers.

Aoki-San continues:
The first thing the children do is have their faces painted with colourful designs and then they do some colouring and picture drawing. They mostly make pictures of the Itadori Plant that they are honouring, which is a plant that the people of the village use a lot in their cooking. Without the Itadori plant, a lot of people would go hungry in this village, so they celebrate it with this O-Matsuri.

Sakurazawa-San continues:
So they now head off to the Sales Booths and see what there is for sale. The children finds a inflateable Yoyo Toy that is a hollow ball attached to a stretchy string that they enjoy. It costs a couple of yen to Noriko-San gets a couple for them. Noriko-San also finds a sales booth that sells Yukata Leisure Wear Garmet that she likes and also picks that up. She also gets a Yukata for her Husband who likes it.

Yamashiro-San continues:
They are now getting hungry, so they go to see what is available to eat that the Food Booths. There is plenty of Sake Salmon being cooking over giant hibachis and there is a booth that is selling Tako O-Yaki. There is also lots of Yaki Gohan Fried Rice with Itadori Plant in it. There is also Sushi on available using Itadori Plant in it. There is Sake Sushi, Saba Sushi, and Bonito Sushi available.

Yuji-San continues:
The children exclaim politely that they want Tako O-Yaki and Noriko-San get them double orders. She also gets orders of Tako O-Yaki for herself and her husband Ueyama-San. Noriko-San also gets a Bar BQed Sake Salmon with steamed Itadori Plant for her Husband and an order of Bonito Sushi for herself. They find a comfortable place to sit and eat their late Breakfast while watching the Taiko Drummers and the people coming and going around the Festival.

Toranaga-San continues:
Ueyama-San eats quickly and excuses himself from his family, who are eating leisurely. He has to go off and help organize a Judo Martial Arts exhibition. He is the village leader and Sensei of the Judo Martial Art School of the village. After the Taiko Drummers are finished their preforming, the village Judo Club is slated to do a Demonstration. He goes over and organizes the various members of his school and warms up for the exhibition.

Yoshida-San continues:
The Judo Club goes out to the middle of the Dohyo Circle, which right out front of the Main Gekijo Stage and they put on their exhibition of Judo. Ueyama-San demonstrates the techniques for flipping over ones opponents in have gentle and harmless fashion. He shows the crowd how Judo is the gentle martial art and is used to defeat an opponent without harming him. They do about an hour of such exhibitions.

Ikuto-San continues:
After the Judo Exhibition is over, then some elderly ladies of the village go up onto the stage and they start singing chorus songs. They sing about Life, Happiness, and Nature. Ueyama has rejoined his Family and they are enjoying the Singing. Ueyama is also keeping an eye out for a couple of other Samurai from nearby villages to show up for the O-Matsuri. He is hoping to put on a Karate and Katana Exhibition with three Samurai Friends who come from other nearby villages.

Miyazaki-San continues:
As noon of the Itadori O-Matsuri comes, Ueyama-San notices that his Samurai Friends have shown up with their equipment. They get together and get some more Bar BQed Salmon for themselves and their families and have a nice Hirugohan Lunch. Their exhibition is scheduled for after Hirugohan Lunch.

Hirayama-San continues:
The three Samurai have brought their Wives and Children and this allows Ueyama-San's children to have some other Samurai Children to play with. They go off and play Tag Games and Hide and Seek Games. As soon as Hirugohan is over, Ueyama-San and his three Samurai friends do their exhibition.

Muto-San continues:
They then go to the middle of the Dohyo Circle and they demonstrate their quick draws with their Katanas and show the proper methods for slicing ones enemy. They then do Karate exhibition breaking some boards and doing some Punches and Throws. The crowd is impressed with their Katana and Karate Martial Arts abilities.

Suzuki-San continues:
After finishing their Martial Arts Exhibition, they then go to a Sake Booth and get a couple of Sake Drinks, which they toast to each other and to the Daimyo of Nagasaki. They then look for their Families and find that they are all once again at the Children's Tent to Kiai Contest trying to yell as loudly as they can.

Saimoto-San continues:
After they Kiai, they have the Suika Smashing Game. They take a Suika Watermelon and they have a Game of how many times it takes to hit it with a stick before it breaks open. After spending about a half hour of smashing away, the Suika breaks open and the Children jump on it and break up into pieces and they enjoy eating the Fruit of the pieces.

Yamazaki-San continues:
They then have a Sumo Basho Contest in which all the villagers are allowed to participate. After several rounds of competition, Ueyama-San is eliminated. One of this Samurai Friends and a rather large Farmer are the finalist. The Farmer is highly skilled in Judo, so was able to defeat all of his opponents. But after a best of three contest, Ueyama-San's Samurai Friend manages to win.

Ki No Ronin now gets to add in some story:
Then they have to O-miskoshi Portable Temple Dance. After setting up the Keitai na Jinja and the Shinto Priests Blessing it, all the Villages and pick up the O-miskoshi and start parading it about the O-Matsuri tossing up and down chanting. People are throwing water on the participants in order to keep them cool.

Nobunaga Sensho-San now concludes the story:
After the O-miskoshi has been celebrated, the final music is played and the Shishi comes out and dances amongst the Crowd and everyone is nice to the Shishi. With that, Ueyama-San gets back up on the Gekijo Stage and makes an address on how happy he is to see that everyone has had a good time and that they have succeeded in Blessing the Sacred Itadori Plant that their village depends on. After closing the O-Matsuri, the villages all help pack up the equipment and tents and they all go home. After seeing his family home, Ueyama-San then goes to out with is three Samurai Friends and they all go to the Izakaya and have some Sake Drinks and enjoy each others company.

The End.

And with Yamasaki-San still playing his Flute, several Sailors start accompanying him with the small drums that they have on the Kawa Shima Maru. They sort of start doing a Taiko Drumming session. Several other Sailors, who have no drums, take some battons and beat a rhythm on the Deck, Railings, or against the Mast. They seem to keep good rhythm and the continue this ad lib Drumming Circle Session until Nobunaga Sensho-San puts up his hand and after the Drumming and Flute Playing stops announces, "Kyo no Kutsurogu na O-Matsuri wa ima Owari Desu. Takusan Tanoshimi wa Asobimashita. Ima Yugatta Desu soshite Bangohan wa Junbi Irimasho. Bangohan no ato ni Futsu na Gimon wa Tsuzukimasu. Yoroshiku Onegai Shimasu, Bonzai!", saying that it is time for the days O-Matsuri to end and that it is time to prepare Bangohan Dinner and after that normal duties will resume.

Everyone bows politely. Most of the Funenori-nin Sailors now go down below to their hammocks with the normal Afternoon Watch Crewmen remaining on deck. Hirayama-San climbs up the rope ladders to the Crow's-Nest and relieves Yoshimune ShOko-San who had been maintaining watch during the Story Telling part of the Kutsurogu na O-Matsuri.

Ki No Ronin looks over the railling of the Kawa Shima Maru and sees that the Kujaku Fuka Whale Shark is still swimming alongside their ship continuing to rub itself against the Kawa Shima Maru. Ki No Ronin thinks to himself that this might be a Whale Shark that is not fully grown and might be considering the hull of the Kawa Shima Maru as sort of a psuedo Mother that it has adopted or something like that and is rubbing itself up against the Hull as sort of a way of gaining some affection.

It is now Bangohan Dinner time and Ikuto-San has prepared a nice Buta Niku Yaki Gohan Pork Fried Rice with Saba Mackerel Sushi with slices of Mango to with it. It also comes with a ration of Samosas. When the Dinner Bell chimes, Shooji Chorishi-San finally comes out of his Bunk. He had decided to spend his day off staying in his bunk and getting as much rest and sleep as possible.

Bangohan is served out and everyone seems to like the quality of Ikuto-San's Cooking. He bows to everyone in appreciation.

After Bangohan Dinner, a quick inventory of the Kawa Shima Maru's Bushi Stores is done and it is found that there is only about 3 rations of Samosas left for everyone with about 250 Mangos still left, but there is still several sacks of Kami Rice, Dried Spicey Chilli and Curry Powder, and several kegs of Dried Salted Maguro Tune and Buta Pork Niku. There is still enough Fresh Fish left for another 3 days or so and then that is it. Fresh Unsalted Fish can last only a short time so after three more days, that will be it.

Ki No Ronin then makes sure that his Night Watch Crew are all in their Hammocks and then he goes to his Bunk to get his rest for his next Night Watch. He gets into his Bunk and goes fast asleep.

When Ki No Ronin gets back up and has reported for duty, he looks about the Kawa Shima Maru and notices that the Kujaku Fuka Whale Shark has disappeared. After about an hour of doing his Night Watch, Ki No Ronin doesnt see anything of the Gentle Giant, so has to assume that it must have gotten Hungry and has gone off looking for a nice bloom of Plankton or school of Baby Shrimp to eat.

Everyone is at their posts and they are sailing along with the constant 15 knot winds that have been blowing in a North Easterly direction. There is not a cloud in the sky and that gives Ki No Ronin an opportunity to practise the art of Navigating by the Stars. He sees on the Chart Table that Yoshimune ShOko-San had plotted their exact location just before his Afternoon Watch was over. Ki No Ronin takes some directional berring shots off of a few Stars and finds that his berring shots show are the same as Yoshimune ShOko-San's.

With Ikuto-San on the Helm and Saimoto-San up in the Crow's-Nest, Ki No Ronin has a good look around with his Spyglass and there is no sign of any other Ship or Creature from horizon to horizon. All is Peaceful and Quiet, which makes Ki No Ronin happy since that means there is no problems to have to sort out. They have been making regular patrols of the Kawa Shima Maru's Hold and there has been no sign of any Rats or Mice. Nothing of the Samosas that they had in the Hold had any nibble marks, so that means they were disciplined enough guarding the Kawa Shima Maru while in port that not even a Mouse was able to get aboard undetected.

Ki No Ronin looks down and notices that there is some cleaning needed on the Quarter Deck so says to Koshin-San and Aoki-San, "Sumimasen. Kono Niban Kanpan wa mo sukoshi na Kitanai Desu. Hoke wa Shiyo Shitekudasai soshite kono Kanpan wa Soji Shitekudasai". Both Koshin-San and Aoki-San both bow obediently and say "Hai" and they rush and get out a couple of Hoke Brooms and they start sweeping the Kanpan Deck clean and they dispose of the dirt over the railling into the Sea.

Then Ki No Ronin says socialably to Saimoto-San who is on the Helm, "Kino no Kutsurogu na O-Matsuri wa Tanoshimi Deshita ka?", asking if he had Tanoshimi Fun during the day before's Relaxation O-Matsuri. Saimoto-San replies politely, "Hai Ki No Ronin Bushi-San! Kako ni Taiko wa Asobimashita soshite kino no Taiko Jiken wa Sankatai Deshita. Kore wa Ichiban Tanoshimi Deshita", saying that he had played Taiko Drums before and had especially liked the Taiko Drumming session that they had done.

Ki No Ronin had dabbled a bit in Taiko Drumming before and knew that Yoshimune ShOko-San had done it a lot as a youth so he had a lot of talent in doing that. It just occurs to Ki No Ronin that they could maybe ask Yoshimune ShOko-San to lead them in practicing Taiko as part of their Daily Meditation sessions. He retorts, "Seinen Yoshimune ShOko-San wa takusan Taiko wa Renshu Shimashita. Tadashi na Taiko Shikata wa tabun Oshieru koto ga Dekimasu. Ashita Gogo Ji no aida ni Yoshimune ShOko-San de kono Te ga Iteiru wa Tasunemasho", sayign that a youthfull Yoshimune ShOko-San had a lot of practice in Taiko and tomorrow afternoon, Ki No Ronin will ask him if he would like to teach some of the crew the finer points of the Art of Taiko.

Saimoto-San eyes light up and nod in reply, "Hai, kore wa Sugoi na Kangae Desu. Kono Taiko Ongakuka no Namae tabun 'Kawa Shima Maru Taiko' Desu", saying that they might call the group Kawa Shima Maru Taiko.

Then they do a switch and Saimoto goes up to the Crow's-Nest to maintain watch and Aoki-San gets to take the Helm. The seas are a bit rough and have a few white caps on their waves and Ki No Ronin takes a Wind Speed measurement and the Wind is now 18 Knots, but after a while, goes back to 15 Knots. There is still no sign of the Kujaku Fuka Whale Shark.

They sail along without any problems until it is 6:00am and that is the time to ring the Bell for everyone to wake up. About 20 minutes later, the smell of Steaming Rice is about and they get Curried Salt Pork laid across a bowl of steaming Gohan Steamed Rice with a few slices of Mango.

Nobunaga Sensho-San comes up to the Bridge and checks the Navigational Berrings that Ki No Ronin has been doing and finds that they are within 5% margin for error and nods his head at Ki No Ronin saying, "Anata no Koko na Hakaru wa Tadashi Desu. Sugoi no Shigoto Desu". Ki No Ronin bows appreciatively for the compliment and they start having their Asagohan Breakfast.

When Asagohan Breakfast is over and the dishes have been collected and washed and Ki No Ronin's Night Watch has been releaved by Nobunaga Sensho-San and goes down below to his Bunk to get some rest.

Arroused by the 11:00am Bell, Ki No Ronin gets up and Shooji Chorishi-San is busy preparing Hirugohan Lunch for the Crew. He finds his nicely laundered clothes and puts them on and equipts himself with his Katana and goes up to the Quarter Deck. "Ichiban Kanpan de Kite Kudasai", Ki No Ronin asks of Nobunaga Sensho-San who nods replying, "Hai, Dozo".

Ki No Ronin goes up to the Bridge and looking about sees that there is still no sign of that Kujaku Fuka Whale Shark. "Sensho-San, asoko Kujaku Fuka wa mada Kiemashita ka?", asks Ki No Ronin. "Hai Ki No Ronin Bushi-San. Kono Okii na Fuka wa Tabemono wa tabun Oikakemashita", replies Nobunaga Sensho-San, saying that the Whale Shark has probably gone off chasing after some Food to eat. "Watashi no Tabemono mata sugu ni Irimasu", Nobunaga Sensho-San semi jokingly continues. Yamashiro-San, having heard Nobunaga-San's comment about when the Food for Hirogohan Lunch will be ready, rushes down below and informs Shooji Chorishi-San to get the Food ready quickly as Nobunaga Sensho-San might be getting a bit impatient.

Shooji Chorishi-San also overheard the comment and realized that he was just sort of joking and replies, "Shimpai Shinaide Kudasai. MOjiki ni Ryori Junbi Shimasho". Shooji-San then turns and continues watching after the Steaming Gohan Rice that he has going over the Chorishitsu Galley's Stove.

Shooji Chorishi-San only has a couple days worth of Fresh Fish Rations left to work with, so he is making the best of it by making the best Sushi that he can. He mixes the Gohan Steamed Rice with a bit of Vinegar to make the Rice more sticky and then forms the Steamed Rice into bit sized squares and puts onto each on a slice of last remaining Fresh Saba Mackerel onto each square. Along with that, he also have some slices of Mango. He makes about 4 morsels of Sushi per Sailor.

While Hirugohan Lunch is being prepared, Yoshimune ShOko-San has come up to the Bridge and stands alongside Nobunaga Sensho-San and Ki No Ronin. He says, "Konnichwa Nobunaga Sensho-San. Konnichiwa Ki No Ronin Bushi-San. Genki Desu ka?". Both Nobunaga-San and Ki No Ronin bow back to him saying, "Okagasama Desu yo". Yoshimune Shoko-San then also says Konnichiwa to Shimizu-San who is manning the Kawa Shima Maru's Helm who bows back politely saying, "Okagasama Desu".

After a short while, the noon Hiru Gohan Lunch Bell is rung and all the Sailors go down and get their Sushi. After all the Sailors have their Sushi, Shooji Chorishi-San then brings up to the Bridge the Sushi for the Officers of the Kawa Shima Maru as well as Shimizu-San. On Nobuanaga Sensho-San's signal, they all start to eat their Sushi.

After eating and all the dishes collected and taken away to be washed, Nobunaga Sensho-San turns to Ki No Ronin and says, "Shinsen na Tabemono Bushi ga dono kurai wa Shiritai Desu. Shooji Chorishi-San to issho ni kono Bushi wa Katotte Kudasai", ordering for the Fresh Rations of the Kawa Shima Maru to be counted to see how much they might have left. Ki No Ronin replies, "Hai Sensho-San" and goes down below and he and Shooji Chorishi-San go into the Hold and count the Fresh Rations.

After spending about a half hour counting, they come back and report that they have about two days worth of both Fresh Saba Mackerel and Samosas. There is no more Majuro Tuna. They still have some Fresh Vegetables for Vegetable Fried Rice which will last for another week. Vegetable dont go bad as fast as Fresh Fish or Samosas, so they were able to stock more of that.

Nobunaga Sensho-San then replies, "Sakana Tsuri sugu ni tabun Shitai Desu. Kaiyo no naka ni Sakana wa Mimashita ka?", asking if they have seen any schools of Fish swimming about lately as they might have to soon have a go at doing some Fishing to replenish their Fish Supplies. Both Yoshimune ShOko-San and Ki No Ronin shake their heads that they have not seen any. Yoshimune ShOko-San replies, "Ima kara Sakana wa Mimasho". He turns and announces to the Crew, "Atana no Gimu no aida ni Sakana wa Metsuketai Desu. Yoru Shinsen na Sakana Moto wa Irimasu".

After all this is done, Ki No Ronin goes up to Yoshimune ShOko-San and comments, "Kino no Kutsurogu na O-Matsu no Taiko Asobu wa Tanoshimi Deshita. Watashi wa Yugatta Komai Gumi Funenori-nin wa Taiku no Kangae wa Omoimashita soshite Taiko wa Manabitai Desu soshite Renshu Shitai Desu. Anata no Keiken Irimasu. Oshieru Shitai Desu", saying that Crewmen of his Night Watch enjoyed the Taiko they played during their Kutsurogu O-Matsuri and that they would like to learn to play Taiko and practice it. Yoshimune ShOko-San smiles and nods, "Hai. Sugoi na Kangae Desu". He then turns to Nobunaga Sensho-San and asks, "Kawa Shima Maru no Funenori-nin wa Taiko ga Manabitai Desu. Oshite mo Idesu ka?". Nobunaga Sensho-San also likes the idea and replies, "Hai! Mochiron ni Dozo!".

They then announce to the Crew that they are planning to start a Ship Taiko Drumming Group called "Kawa Shima Maru Taiko" and that they will start lessons on Taiko as soon as possible. But first, they must do some Martial Arts Practice and some Emergency Drills. They have to be in complete Practice with the Emergency Drills when they arrive in the Pirate infested water around Indonesia.

Then they Meditate for about an Hour and they concentrate on the 8 precepts of Shintoism and Buddhism and wish all to be Well, Happy and Peaceful.

After doing that, Yoshimune excuses himself as he has to go below to get some writing materials in order to start planning the Taiko Lessons that he is to Teach. He sees that there is only 3 small Drums on the Kawa Shima Maru so that means they need to build at least 5 or 6 more Drums for their Taiko Band to use. He quickly draws up a design for some Drums and confers with Shooji Chorishi-San and Ki No Ronin. They can make Drums by jerry rigging something out of empty supply kegs. They can take a empty Wooden Keg, reinforce it with extra steel bands and use some old extra sail canvas to make the Drum Surface. Shooji Chorishi-San had actually had some experience in making Taiko Drums back in Japan, so he assures everyone that he will work on it and have something built shortly. They presently have 3 empty wooden kegs, so he can start rebuilding them into Taiko Drums immediately.

But shortly after that is done, it become time for Bangohan Dinner to start being prepared, so Shooji Chorishi-San puts the Wooden Kegs aside and starts on making Bangohan Dinner which will be once again Saba Mackerel Sushi with some Steamed Vegetables and a Samosa for each Funenori-nin Crewman. There is also three slices of Mango to go with that.

Once Bangohan is served and eaten, Ki No Ronin excuses himself and goes to his Bunk to get his rest for his next Night Watch.

When Ki No Ronin gets up and goes up to the Bridge of the Kawa Shima Maru, he finds Yoshimune ShOko-San on duty. "Kombanwa Yoshimune ShOko-San. Anata Gogo Kotai Gumi wa Owari Desu. Yasumeru koto ga Dekimasu", says Ki No Ronin to Yoshimune ShOko-San. Before Yoshimune ShOko-San can reply, Ki No Ronin notices that he is sitting at the Chart Table working on something on a parchment of paper. Ki No Ronin then asks, "Nani ni Kakiteimasu ka? Yonde mo Idesu ka?". Yoshimune ShOko-San smiles and hands over the paper over saying, "Hai, Mochiron ni Yonde Kudasai, Dozo. Kore wa Taiko no Shikata Desu. Sugu ni Oshieru koto ga Deikimasu", saying that he has been writing down the methodology of Taiko Drumming in order to be able to teach it to the Crew.

Ki No Ronin takes the paper and looks it over. Ki No Ronin has some knowledge of Taiko Drumming and the information on the paper looks good and accurate. It goes:

Don -
A Single loud beat to the Hara Center of of the Drum. The left hand on a Taiko is sometimes called "kon." This could be considered the equivalent of a quarter beat, but could also be a half beat.

Do -
A Single firm beat to the Hara, but with a value 1/2 that of "Don" (the left is sometimes called "Ko" or "Ke"). This would be an eighth note, if "Don" is a Quarter Beat.

DoKo -
Two Fast Beats of equal sound and power. This would be the equivalent of 2 Eighth Beats.

DoRo -
Two Fast Beats, but with a slight "Rolling" feel to the Beats. Played Right then Left.

Tsu -
A Beat to be played Softly with the Right Hand. The Value of the Note is variable.

TsuKu -
Two Fast Beats played Softly (the Left Hand is "Ku").

Ka -
A Beat played on the Fuchi Edge of the Taiko Drum, and sometimes Beat on the side of the Taiko Drum.

KaRa -
Two Fast Beats played on the Fuchi with a slight "Rolling" feel to the Beats. Played "Right, Left".

Su -
A Rest. The value of the Rest is variable, but usually it is One Beat.

Zu -
Another term for a Soft Beat. Sometimes played with a slight "Drag" to the Beat.

Ki No Ronin reads this and hands the paper back to Yoshimune ShOko-San saying, "Kore wa Omoshiroi Desu. Sugu ni Manabi Gaiteimasu. Yoroshi na Kakimono Desu". Yoshimune ShOko-San replies, "Domo Arigato Gozaimasu Ki No Ronin Bushi-San. Asu no aida ni Nobunaga Sensho-San de Misemasho. Asatte ni kono Taiko Shikata wa Oshieru koto ga Hajimemasho", saying that after showing it to the Captain, for his approval, he might start teaching the Taiko Method to the Crewmen who might wish to learn the next following day.

Ki No Ronin bows appreciatively to Yoshimune ShOko-San, then looks up to checks out the weather and comments, "Tenki wa Nani Desu ka?". The wind has reduced to 12 Knots but there is quite a few clouds about right now and alot of the Stars in the sky are obscured by the Clouds. Yoshimune ShOko-San replies, "San Jikan no mae ni kono Kumo wa Arimasu. Mo Sukoshi na Ame tabun Furemasu".

Yoshimune ShOko-San then rubs his eyes and yawns a bit and announced to his Afternoon Watch Crewmates, "Gogo no Kotai Gumi wa ima Owari. Yasunde mo Idesu, Dozo". He then changes places with Ki No Ronin Night Watch Crew and marches his Afternoon Watch Crewmen down into the Orlop Deck and dismisses them. They then can be heard down below spending an hour or so socializing and playing a couple of games of Dice and Torampo Cards. Then things go silent down below as they go to bed.

After they take their Night Watch, a slight drizzle of Ame Rain does start to fall, but it does not necessitate getting out any extra shelter as the slight Rain does not last long. The Watch starts with Saimoto-San being up in the Crow's-Nest and Aoki-San manning the Helm.

All Night Watch long, there is no sign of any trouble and there is still no sign of the Kujaku Fuka Whale Shark that had been their companion for a few days. Ki No Ronin is now starting to miss the Okii na Fuka as it sort of seemed like they had gained a large Pet for a while.

The next morning comes and they ring the Bell at 6:00am for everyone who is on Morning Watch to get up and for Shooji Chorishi-San to start making Asagohan Breakfast. They have Chilli Pepper Flavored Gohan Steamed Rice with Fresh Maguro Tuna laid on top of the Rice.

After eating, Ki No Ronin dismisses his Night Watch and with Nobunaga Sensho-San and his Morning Watch on duty, goes down to his Bunk and climbs in to get his Rest.

The next day, Yoshimune ShOko-San showed the Taiko lesson that he written down to Nobunaga Sensho-San who immediately approved it. He then authorized Taiko Practice for an hour to be held every day after daily Meditations.

For the first couple of days, they crafted some Taiko Drum Sticks and since there was only 2 other smaller Drums on board, they just practices by drumming on the Quarter Deck itself.

By the third day, Shooji-San had completed the first full sized Taiko Drum that he had fashioned out of an Empty Wooden Keg whose contents had been consumed. Another Empty Wooden Keg had been broken apart and its sturdy Wood used to make Drum Sticks.

In that days practice, each Crewman got to try out the New Drum. The lessons are going well and it is found that Ikuto-San does have some experience and talent to Taiko. Ki No Ronin also practices and is also fairly efficient at Taiko Drumming. He had done it a couple of times as a youth when he was still living in his Home Village. It is found that Yamashiro-San, Hirayama-San, and Miyazaki-San do have some talent at it.

But then it is discovered that the sound of the Drums carry a lont way out to Sea and that sound could attract Pirates or other unwanted attention. So Nobunaga Sensho-San allows only for one week of Practice one hour per day. After one more week, they will start arriving into the waters of a chain of Islands that have a lot of Pirates plying the waters.

Once they arrive in those Waters, they will only able to practice the timing of the Drums Beats.

Every two days, Shooji Chorishi-San produces another Taiko Drum made from Empty Wooden Kegs. He uses Thick Sail Canvass from Older Sails and toughens them up using chunks of Bees and Ordinary Wax. When all the Empty Kegs are made into Drums, they have 4 Drums. They would prefer 6 for a bigger Taiko Band, but that would mean having to eat up the contents of two more Wooden Kegs. They mainly are used for storing Dried Meat and Raw Rice, so they go on a diet of Dried Meat Fried Rice and in about two weeks, they have the extra Empty Kegs that they need.

For the next week, they practice normally on the Drums and they put together a few numbers that could be played if they ever are going into a Battle. Sometimes, a well played Taiko Drum Set can sometimes un-nerve an Enemy and even been know to scare them away.

They even come up with something that is to be played during Battle:

http://www.youtube.co...

After about of week of practicing, it is decided that Yoshimune ShOko-San should be the leader while they play their Taiko Drums if they are fighting with Pirates. Going with him will be Ikuto-San, Shimizu-San, Miyazaki-San, Yamashiro-San, and Yamashiro-San. Ki No Ronin can not be part of that cause his duties involve actually doing the fighting defending the Ship.

When coming in close to any Enemy, all six of them will play but when they get in close, Yoshimune ShOko-San and Yamashiro-San will drop their Drum Sticks and arm themselves with Bows and Arrows leaving 4 Drummers remaining to play.

The entire Crew has gotten into the enthusiasm for doing Taiko and they even practice the Beat Timings during the evenings silently by striking a single finger onto the Deck.

After the first week of Practice, they are going to be arriving in the Nicobar Islands any day, so they have start practicing silently. In order to have silent practice, they put down pads of Sail and they pad their Drum Sticks and they beat down on the folded Sails.

The week has gone on by peacefully and quietly with only a couple of days of some Rain, but the Wind has always stayed at a good steady strength of 15 Kmh. The distance between India and Indonesia is only one third that of South Africa to India, so they should arrive at the Straight of Mallaca within another 2 weeks.

They have not seen so much as single Ship at all during the past 2 weeks since they last saw the coastline of Sri Lanka. Everything has been nice and peaceful. But they are now arriving into the waters of the Nicobar Islands.
