Our friends at Japan Underground are putting on another great night at the Pipeline. My Japanese fronted band Colors will also be opening up the night. As always there's the excellent Peko Peko Japanese kitchen as well for a Japanese food fix. Headliners will be the fantastic and out there N'Shukugawa Boys (female fronted?!!):
Japanese distorted rock trio N’SHUKUGAWA BOYS are known for ‘shocking costumes’ and ‘outrageous live performances’ in their native Japan, but on Wednesday 9 October they hope to make a name for themselves in the UK with an exclusive, rare live set at London punk dive The Pipeline.
Described as 80s inspired rock that is ‘poppy and cute. As bright as Cyndi Lauper but much, much more punk’ (MTV 81), N’SHUKUGAWA BOYS see themselves as a combination of their favourite rock heroes. “We inhale everything out of bands like Joy Division, Oblivians, The Smiths, The La’s, Velvet Underground, The Cure, The Kills, Suicide, The White Stripes, Barbee Boys, The Drums and Iggy Pop. Take a deep breath, and exhale this sound,” explains panda-eyed member MAAYA LOVE.
N’SHUKUGAWA BOYS members ditch the band rulebook by each member taking turns at playing the drums, guitar and bass parts. More often than not bass is left out entirely to make way for improvised dance and other stage-based misbehaviour.
Their eclectic style has rewarded them with many fans across the world, with the videos to hit tracks Monogatari wa Chito? Fuantei and PLANET MAGIC on YouTube breaking one million views each.
