Game Meetup at Happy Viking

Let's play games at Happy Viking Games! Centrally located near Beach Blvd. and I-95, Happy Viking is Jacksonville's newest game store with more room to meet our growing numbers. Simply RSVP and show up with any games you want to play!
**Please remember that Happy Viking is a business, so this meetup is strictly adults only, 18+.** Personal beverages and food are okay, but courteously and in moderation. No alcohol, please.
If you'd like to eat beforehand, Mudville Grill is across the street, and other restaurants are located along Beach and Atlantic boulevards. As noted above, there is some parking along the front of the shopping center where Happy Viking is located, but some of us may need to park across the street by the hardware store. Please contact me with any questions about this meetup via email at [masked], or on my cell phone at[masked]-3646. For information about Mike Benson or Happy Viking, the store number is[masked] and the email is [masked]. The Web site is www.happyvikinggames.com. See you all there! I'm glad everyone had a great time on Saturday! Everyone that wanted to come was able to come, and I heard overwhelmingly positive responses from members. Thanks for your feedback!
Several people have commented about noise concerns. I take these observations seriously; however, all meetup events are parties. This is what game meetups are and so we should expect some noise, or address the loud party politely at the time that it bothers us.
The same goes for meetup venues. Please keep in mind that all of our hosts are gracious enough to lend us their homes/businesses without expecting anything in return, therefore we as guests in their homes/businesses must behave as such. If we choose to stay, that is our prerogative. If we choose to leave, that is also our prerogative.
Thank you again for your insights. See you soon!

    Marie

The meetup group members were friendly and welcoming, as usual. It was great that we could all get together in one place. I had never been to Happy Viking - it was a nice venue. The host, Michael, made me feel welcomed - thanks! With all those folks in that one place with no sound-dampening carpet or drapes, though, it got rather loud - louder than it gets at a home. - Although, I agree with Rick - it can get pretty loud there, too. Please - if everyone can be a little more aware of their volume and please realize that there are others sitting just a table away. Experienced players don't need to talk too much but it gets frustrating for those new players and the ones showing them the game when you have to shout to be heard; "OK! NOW DRAW FIVE NEW CARDS!" "NO, I SAID DIScard! NOT THIS card!"

Okay, I think I need to broach a delicate subject. Please take this as it as it is intended
For the last 4 meetups or so, I have had difficulty concentrating on the game at my table due to enthusiastic exclamations from nearby tables. This has happened at private homes with plenty of carpeting, and overstuffed furniture.
I usually only play one game, mostly because it is hard to concentrate. I enjoy learning new games and meeting new people, but background noise sometimes makes this difficult if not impossible to concentrate on yet another game. So, among adults we should be able to have a discussion about this. What may be do improve the general atmosphere so everyone may have fun?
I guess I'm the first person to post a public comment about this problem, but I'm guessing that Im not the only one who has this difficulty.
I get enthusiastic as well, sometimes. So if I disturb you, just tell me.

Okay, I think I need to broach a delicate subject. Please take this as it as it is intended
I enjoyed the pre-meetup at Mud ville. I also enjoy helping a local business get started. I hope we meet at happy Viking again. I know they were really happy to host. Also, I enjoyed the short waiting list.I know they are growing their business gradually and will have more amenities as time progresses.
I met 3 new people and leaned Pandemic, which was a lot of fun. However, as the evening progressed, it was difficult to enjoy their company due to increasing voices volumes from nearby tables. After a while, I could not hear what the person next to me was saying.
The following comments are NOT a snip at Happy Viking. For the last 4 meetups or so, I have had difficulty concentrating on the game at my table due to enthusiastic exclamations from nearby tables. This has happened at private homes with plenty of carpeting, and overstuffed furniture. SEE BELOW

Would anyone like to grab a bite at a nearby restaurant before the meetup starts? I thought that might be a good way for new attendees to meet and greet with the group.

I'll try to get the slightly raised area where there are a bunch of loose tables we can put together any way we want for however many of us want to come by. I'll have a MEETUP sign to let you know where we are. I'll be there by 5:30 pm. The number at Mudville is[masked] and they're on the web at www.themudvillegrille.com if you need more info about the eatery.

The thought has been thrown around that we go to Mudville grill right nearby at 6:00. As far as i know that is still the case.

I'll adjust the time to 5:30 pm since we have such a large group going. I've visited them though, advised them that we'll be there and have gotten names of people to talk to when we get there. I'll also have a sign up so people can see us.
