The Atlanta Jewelry Making Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

  • This location is shown only to members

Welcome to the Atlanta Jewelry Maker's meetup! My name is Wendy Tonsits and I am the owner of Amalgam Arts, a jewelry studio in Decatu, GA. Our meetups will be held at the Amalgam studio at 743 E. College Ave; Ste E; Decatur, GA 30030..

Our Meetup will feature a Make-A-Pair of Earrings Art Party, the first and most popular of our expanding series of casual, entertaining, and enriching classes. The workshop begins at 10am and wraps up at 2pm. During this class you will be able to create, from start to finish, a pair of earrings using sterling silver wire and sheet, a blowtorch, and your own two hands! Designs can vary from simple, highly polished earrings to ones that are textured or stamped to show off your unique style. A $45 fee covers materials, instruction and light snacks. Stones may be added from our in-house selection (onyx, malachite, turquoise, amber, moonstone, hematite, and lapis, to name a few) for an additional $5 for each stone and setting combo.

The atmospheres at AMALGAM is a comfortable, casual, and productive environment. In addition you can view our jewelery for sale and learn about our other classes, not to mention meet other aspiring and professional jewelers to see what all of your neighbors are up to! Feel free to bring friends and family...it's the perfect opportunity to make a piece of jewelry to give to a loved one...or keep for yourself! Minors are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please feel free to contact me at [masked] if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you there! -Wendy

Do you need experience in this type of jewelry to attend? I would love to learn this but have never used a blow torch. I only do hand beading at this time and resin but would love to learn how to work with metal.

Hello Wendy, Do you have a list of upcoming classes?

I am glad the rain remained light in the morning hours because I would have missed a truly wonderful experience. I was the only student to make it to the class today, so instead of making a pair of earrings as originally scheduled, I was able to make a silver ring with a stone setting. That was something I always wanted to do... I love, love, love, love my ring.. and Wendy you truly know your stuff. Most important, you made me feel okay breaking a saw blade....lol. Wendy, thank you for your knowledge, patience and I got the first set of pics. Looking forward to the pendant making course...Great experience for a rainy Saturday morning/early afternoon.

OMG! I'm so glad I did not make it to this class : ( I'm new to GA and still getting used to the highways so I was chicken about driving in the rain. I'm glad you had a nice time. I hope to go to the next meet up. Hey.. can you post a picture of the ring you made?

Hi Wendy and everyone looking forward to the class, however like Janis mentioned below, the weather is not looking too good. If the weather dictates, I will post something on these boards tomorrow morning and let you know if I need to cancel and reschedule for the next available class for my schedule, okay?

Hi Ree! Just wanted to say that the rain is pretty light here in Decatur. Hope you can still make the workshop.
