Re: [joomlabayarea] Joomla 3 Retiring as Joomla 4 Comes to Life

Oh I knew you didn't mean it directed at me.

Yes, the waiting for extensions. That's a part of it too. Hopefully the extensions developers will jump on it faster this go around since there isn't any LTS anymore.

:)

I'm sorry Jenn. I didn't mean to imply that it was your title. I was just making a comment.
I do wish there was more coordination with marketing within Joomla to make sure the titles are better thought out. It'll never happen, but i wish.
In the past, I've had to wait until enough of the extensions were available in the new version before adopting the new version
I'm sure that Joomla will get better and better, as it has been doing all along

I didn't make the title, just copied it from the article on the site. When I went back to look for it, I swear it had changed from what I originally saw but ... <shoulder-shrug>

That's exactly right...3 to 4 will be a mini-migration just like 2.5 to 3 was (is).

Drupal, yes. In a way I think we all understand this. WP, we shall see what happens to them over the long, long haul.

The main reason I wanted everyone to know about this is so that they could plan. We have two years from whenever 3.9 is released until the Joomla 3 series will be end of life. That's something we should be keeping track of for our own sites and/or client sites so we can plan.

I normally wait a while after a new life cycle is released before starting migrations on client sites and I always test in the lab. I reckon I'll have to write some new docs for docs.joomla.org too. Breathing. ;)

That title makes it sound catastrophic. I hate the title.
It'll be a transition, just like from 2.5 to 3
Just for perspective, there is a lot of resistance in Drupal on going from 7 to 8.
WP doesn't have that problem, because it's just the same old shit with them.

Hi Group,

The Joomla! Project has published some updates on Joomla 3 (and 4) and so I wanted to pass them on so you would all be in the loop.
