Let's celebrate St. Patrick's day by going on a hike and having a potluck after!
After hiking, we'll have a potluck social. As we rather focus on socializing and hiking rather than cooking, we are not bringing charcoal or a grill—please bring something to the potluck that tastes good cold! When you RSVP, list what you are bringing. We will find a picnic area to eat at after the hike.
Alcohol is allowed, though the park strongly urges you to be responsible about glass. Feel free to bring a bottle of wine or some beer to share.
Hike details: Pine Tree Loop
A nice hike for both beginners and intermediate hikers, Pine Tree Loop starts in the high upper desert and takes you into the pine trees and junipers. In the winter there can be ice on the trail. The trail is a loop with one way up and one way down. It has been a couple years since I have done this hike, and I'm excited to do it again. This will be a leisurely hike (code for 'raena speed'), so if you are a speedy hiker, this might not be the hike for you.
Please bring plenty of water, hat, snacks, sunscreen, and appropriate footwear. Hiking poles are suggested.
This is a fragrance free hike, please do not apply perfume, cologne, or scents of any kind that morning.
DISTANCE is ~4.5 mi, roundtrip.
ELEVATION GAIN is ~1000 ft gained.
FEES: $5/vehicle, paid at the trailhead If you have a Federal Lands Pass, please bring them; they are accepted here. If you carpool, please compensate your driver.
DURATION: Finish hike by 12:30ish, potluck will last an hour or two.
PET FRIENDLY? Yes. This area is highly used, and park rules state that dogs must be on leash on trail.
SKILL LEVEL Moderate.
TERRAIN maintained trail.
AFTERWARDS St. Paddy's day potluck social.
