Mars canyon is a canyon slightly north and west of Achenbach canyon. The hike starts at the Achenbach trailhead parking and continues to the saddle between two peaks overlooking Soledad/Bar Canyons. There is a marked trail for most of the way, but there are sections that are not well marked and the last 0.1 mile is straight up the side of a hill with limited markers to the saddle. At times, the footing on this hike can be challenging. Pants are recommended as sections of the trail can be overgrown. There are two dry waterfalls to climb up, each roughly 8 feet in height. After a break at the saddle, we leave the canyon and explore 2 small peaks to the south.
This hike will be roughly 4.5 miles long with an elevation gain of 1,700 feet, with most of that in the first 1.5 miles.
Please bring water, snacks, appropriate clothing, and be prepared for a little bit of climbing(climbing equipment not necessary or advised). If you are uncomfortable on loose trails trekking poles may be useful to you near the top, but they are not necessary.
The road to Achenbach trailhead can be very rocky, I recommend a higher clearance vehicle (can be made with lower just take it slow).
If you plan to meet up at the trailhead, please post in the comments below. I would like to get this hike started on time and will post in the comment section when I leave the parking lot to head to the trailhead.
