A couple years ago I thought that it would be nice to hike a trail near Las Cruces, 1 per month for the whole year, to see how the trail changes over time. I think Pine Tree Loop is a good choice as the trail is cooler in the summer.
A nice hike for both beginners and intermediate hikers, Pine Tree Loop starts in the high upper desert and takes you into the pine trees and junipers. In the winter there can be ice on the trail. It has been a couple years since I have done this hike, and I'm excited to do it again. This will be a leisurely hike (code for 'raena speed'), so if you are a speedy hiker, this might not be the hike for you.
Please bring plenty of water, hat, snacks, sunscreen, and appropriate footwear. Hiking poles are suggested.
This is a fragrance free hike, please do not apply perfume, cologne, or scents of any kind that morning.
DISTANCE is ~4.5 mi, roundtrip.
