Reimers Ranch Walk & Picnic

Date: Sunday, June 30 at 10:00 a.m.

Event name: Reimers Ranch Walk & Picnic

Description: Enjoy a beautiful walk out at Reimers Ranch, off Hamilton Pool Road. It is 2 miles out and 2 miles back along the flat, crushed granite Pedernales River rim. After the walk, we'll break out our picnic lunches in their new pavilions. For those interested in the after-lunch bonus round, we'll go to Hamilton Pool one mile down the road for a hike and swim. Use the same park pass for entry.

What to bring: Comfortable shoes, picnic lunch, swim suit and towel if you plan to go to Hamilton Pool after the walk.

Location: See our Meetup calendar for meeting location.

The hike and the swimming in the river at Reimer's was wonderful. Some of us also did a bonus hike down into a canyon filled with ferns and a little creek. We even got rained on at one point, which was very welcome to cool us off. Lovely place and lovely company. Thank you, Mosaic!

Great hike in a lovely area. We were lucky to have cooler temperatures this morning. Didn't expect to go bird-watching, but we saw what I think was a painted bunting - http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/wild/species/paintedbunting/

Does anyone still have a carpool spot available? I'd like to go just for the hike and picnic, not the swim afterwards. I live in NW Austin (near the J) but could meet along the route.

Hi Marion. Harvey told Jenny that we're going to drive ourselves. See you there!

    Hi Harvey,
I left you messages on your cell last night and again a little while ago. Jenny & Bruce and myself are carpooling from my house near Southwest Parkway and MoPac, leaving tomorrow morning around 9:20. If you'd like to join us, let me know before then and I can give you my address. [masked]

Ellen and I are interested in carpooling. What is the final decision on the meeting spot and time? Let me know. [masked] (cell). Harvey

Hi everybody!!! I told some people that it may be difficult to find us. After you check in at the park entrance, you will go about 2 miles. You will reach an intersection and you can go right to the biking area, and left to the hiking area. Please go left and meet up at the first pavilion. If you get lost, please call me at (512) 476-2377. Don't forget to bring sunscreen and water, picnic lunch and swimsuit for possible swimming. I will soon be offline for the rest of the week-end.

I am almost definite rather than yes -- there's a slight chance I'll be too lazy, but assume I'm coming unless I call to say I'm not.

I will have to leave early the car has to be back by 2. I could hold down the fort

Jenny and I have talked. She and Bruce will meet at my house for carpooling near SW Parkway and MoPac at around 9:20 am. If other(s) want to carpool, let me know. We can adjust where we're meeting if needed. [masked]

    Marion,
We will carpool with you. Please call us to coordinate a meeting spot. I am thinking the Starbucks at Hwy 71 right past SW Parkway in HEB parking lot. My treat for SBUX drinks for anyone who carpools! :-)

I live in Travis Country near Mopac and SW Parkway. It's a good jump off point for folks to carpool to Reimer's. I'd like to carpool with folks who also want to do the swim option at Hamilton Pool after. Marion at[masked]

Yes, carpooling makes a lot of sense. Hope you get some response. Please let me know if you do not and I will make some calls for you. Here are directions once you get to the park. When you come in the park, there is a long drive from where you pay to come in to where you park. If you go to the right, that is for bikers. Go the LEFT and meet up at the pavilion. If you want to meet us for lunch, I would try to be there 11:15 ish. If you can't find us our there, call me at (512)[masked]

Shel and I will probably drive out, rather than carpool, because we're not certain of our schedule after the walk. Thanks!

If the picnic is near the cars, I might come to try out my 'hikelegs'

    June 21, 2013

    • Debbie

Yes, we will leave from the parking lot and then return there. When you come in the park, there is a long drive from where you pay to come in to where you park. After a couple of miles, you can go to the right or left. If you go to the right, that is for bikers. Go the LEFT and meet up at the pavilion. If you want to meet us for lunch, I would try to be there 11:15 ish. If you can't find us out there, call me at (512)[masked]

I can't walk 4 miles (bad hip). Will you come back to near the starting point for the picnic?

    June 21, 2013

    • Debbie

Yes--we will walk out 2 miles and then walk back to where where we parked. Also, when you come in the park, there is a long drive from where you pay to come in to the park. After a couple of miles, you can go to the right or left. If you go to the right, that is for bikers. Go the LEFT and meet up at the pavilion. If you want to meet us for lunch, I would try to be there 11:15 ish. If you can't find us out there, call me at (512)[masked]

I just checked the Reimer's Ranch link - the entry fee at Reimer's is $10/vehicle. So not only do we save the environment by carpooling (my initial impulse), we save money as well.

  • Ellen S. M.

Harvey and I will probably come if the picnic will be near the starting point, because I can't hike four miles (bad hip).
