Raccoon State Park Paddle and Beach. ( Rentals available)

Raccoon Creek State Park is a muti use park with hiking trails and a large 101 acre lake that has a beach and swimming. It is also one of the few places that has boat rentals, of kayaks, canoes, and Hydro bikes.  Rentals are on a first come first basis. The cost is very reasonable of 8$ for first hour and half off each hour after that.  Double kayaks are only 10$ Boat concession telephone # is 724--513-6740.

The plan will be to leave the boat dock at 1:45 p.m. and paddle to the left towards an inlet where there is a beaver dam and usually lots of wildlife. After that we will dock at the beach and take a break where you can swim. or get something to eat, or use the bathroom.  We will then paddle to the other end of the lake past the dam. Fishing is allowed.

Paddling tips will be  available before the paddle for beginners.

After the paddle there is an option to stop for dinner at Janowski's Country Restaurant (great home cooked food type menu), and then a visit to the farm market across the street. Janowski's is on Rte 30 on the way home from the park.

We will meet at the boat ramp by the  boat rental concession which is at the end of the lake near Rte 30. Do not go to the beach or to the other boat ramp in the middle of the lake.  Raccoon Park is a very large park so allow time to get there before departure time of 1:30 p.m. and allow time to unload your kayak, or  lots of time if you have to rent.   It takes about a half hour to unload your own boat and park your car, and get ready to paddle.

Any questions or concerns, please email me direct via meetup.

Please indicate if you have your own kayak or if you will be renting.

Note that this is cross posted with Pittsburgh Adventure Lovers which has 15 signed up, so i have cut back the rsvp's on this site.

I enjoyed the paddle yesterday so much, I went out and bought and 8ft kayak (so if fits inside my van) today. Looking forward to more kayaking with the group.
