Wednesday Night Paddle

RATING - Beginner SK2 (click on link to see rating info), Night Trip, approx 5-8 miles, Medium Speed

This trip tends to have flat water, currents up to about 2MPH under some bridges, and can sometimes have brisk winds, though we usually pick a sheltered route on windy nights.

LOCATION & DESCRIPTION - This trip launches from George English Park (the park at the corner of Sunrise and Bayview Drive, across from the Galleria) and has about a dozen possible routes depending on wind and current. This trip can be as long (or short) as we feel like making it! Snacks/dinner afterwards sometimes, location TBD.

PARKING - FREE at the Tennis Center - don't park in the metered area, there are occasionally break-ins over there.  Don't park in the spaces reserved for Tennis Center, though it's OK to pull in briefly to offload.

LAUNCH - The launch is from a flat rocky beach near the Tennis Center toward the north side of the park.

KAYAK RENTALS - Kayak rentals are not available for this trip.

GEAR - BASICS plus NIGHT TIME GEAR. Please visit the GEAR page link for specifics!

whitney: I will bring my canoe and use the parking lot by boat ramp as I have a trailer. Will paddle over and meet you by the courts. If you have anyone who doesn't have a boat and wants to go I can take a paddling passenger, no experience needed. Otherwise I will solo, as I usually do. I use a stern 360 degree light, but don't use red/green nav lights (there are divided opinions on their effectiveness in small hand-powered boats) but I may have some in time for this.

The stern light will be fine, and you can see for yourself how the r/g lights work out on the water. Park closest to the basketball court, as the area along Sunrise Blvd. is subject to break-ins.
