• Martin Ucik and the Dialectic of Love

    344 West 38th St

    $10.00

Explore the dialectics of love, as recently outlined in an article by Martin Ucik in Allyson and Alex Grey’s COSM Journal of Love (see https://shop.cosm.org/products/cosm-journal-10) Martin will distinguish between need-based asymmetric transactional love that is driven by our evolutionary biological purpose and often leads to unsustainable and painful master-slave relationships, and being-based symmetrical transcendental Love that is based in our transcendental (or souls/higher) purpose and leads to sustainable co-creative relationships that make the world a better place by sharing what we love to do, are good at, the world needs, and we get paid for. After an introduction we will engage in exercises designed to provide an experience of both forms of love and how to move from “power over” to “power with” in your love relationships. The exercises will be followed by time for discussion and dialogue. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected to cover costs. 344 W 38th St #401, New York, NY 10018 (Use code 344 to enter the building, go to the 4th floor) Martin Ucik is the author of Integral Relationships: A Manual for Men, and the new book, Sex Purpose Love: Couples in Integral Relationships Creating a Better World, which Ken Wilber calls “A truly comprehensive, inclusive and leading-edge guide to making today’s relationships work from the very highest potentials possible.”

  • A New Republic of the Heart with Terry Patten

CRS (Center for Remembering & Sharing)

Integral New York is excited to host author and (R)evolutionary Terry Patten, who will read from and discuss his new book A New Republic of the Heart: An Ethos for Revolutionaries. We hope you'll join us! Terry Patten’s new book, A New Republic of the Heart: An Ethos for Revolutionaries, has been called “required reading for all humans over the age of 16”, and “THE manual for all who want to meet this moment as the historical call to action that it is.” Terry reveals how our personal practice, and our relationships, can and must be an effective response to our world's larger crises, recognizing “what time it is on the planet". Wholeness, he shows, has potent agency. In our age of fragmentation, the most subversive act is to practice wholeness — to awaken and embody love and integrity. This groundbreaking book expands the definition of Integral Life Practice and of activism. It synthesizes personal and interpersonal practice with the outer work of service, politics, social entrepreneurship and lifestyle transformation. And through a series of powerful new insights it knits integral theory with current events as never before. A breath of fresh air is reinvigorating integral evolutionary culture by making obvious how a more integral consciousness must rise, and is rising, to meet the challenge of our political and ecological emergencies. During the evening, Terry will give a short talk, facilitate small group conversations, and engage questions and answers about the issues of our times. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. For tickets visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-new-republic-of-the-heart-with-terry-patten-tickets-43914954812 Copies of Terry's book will be available for sale. You can learn more about the book and download a free audio and PDF excerpt at https://www.terrypatten.com/a-new-republic-of-the-heart/. Terry will also be offering a two-day workshop on April 28-29 that will dive more deeply into the themes from his book. Attendees of the Integral New York event will receive a discount code for the weekend workshop. For details and registration: https://patten-nyc2018.eventbrite.com/ Terry Patten is a philosopher, teacher, activist, consultant, social entrepreneur, and author. Over the last fifteen years he has devoted his efforts to the evolution of consciousness by facing, examining, and healing our global crisis through the marriage of spirit and activism. As a teacher and consultant, he has worked on four continents, led a team at the HeartMath Institute that developed their first heart-rate variability monitor, and is the founder of the “Beyond Awakening” teleseminar series. As a community builder, he founded Bay Area Integral. As a social entrepreneur, he founded Tools For Exploration, a consciousness technologies company and currently, he's involved in restorative redwood forestry and fossil-fuel alternatives. • Dance Your Daemons

    • What we'll do I'm excited to announce the return of "Dance Your Daemons" with Tara - founder of Dharma Dance! Open to all. No dance experience required. A profound and compassionate embrace of our human experience, including the hidden, be it inspirational like a muse or challenging like shadow, is an important aspect of integral practice. In the hidden, habits and beliefs run like an invisible operating system. This takes valuable energy - energy that we need to charge up our creative expression, passionate work, to welcome the flow of vibrant health and very importantly to stabilize and abide as our highest expressions of ourselves. Inviting the hidden parts of self to show themselves so that we can not only acknowledge them, but relate to them and even walk or move around in their perspective, instigates a transformational friction that releases us from their restrictive grip or the habit of contracting away from their presence. During this session we will have an opportunity to use a movement practice to creatively engage with the hidden. Dance Your Daemons is a cathartic as well as tender and all embracing embodied awakening practice. It could be seen as a movement 3-2-1 Process. Again no prior dance experience is required. There is also no need to worry about how you'll look dancing, because in this practice we wear blindfolds or keep our eyes closed to both engage our imagination and also provide anonymity, while remaining in the support of a shared group intention. No one will be asked or expected to go beyond their own willingness in this practice. Comfortable clothing is suggested. Two powerful premises are at work in Dance Your Daemons. The first is based in movement therapy - that when we move in ways that we are not accustomed to, patterns of how we think and feel are revealed. As an example, yoga uses asana to assist us in facing our embodied energetic blocks. The second is based in transpersonal psychology – that which we are in conscious relationship with, transforms. Dance Your Daemons is guided, yet allows for the spontaneity that coaxes the hidden out of the shadows into our awareness. By consciously relating to our daemons, they become our most dedicated servants, teachers, and guides. Rather than running our lives, daemons enrichen in a truly vibrant “transcend and include” embodied embrace of all that you are. For a more detailed description of Dance Your Daemons see http://dharmadance.co/dance-your-daemons/ There will be a $10 suggested donation for space rental. ------------------- Tara is the founder of Dharma Dance and SEA Bellydance, embodied awakening modalities that draw on ancient movement arts and contemporary rituals. • Integral Practice Group

    Location visible to members

Inspired by Ken Wilber's Integral theory, we have an ongoing, practice group to come together to meet, connect, and practice and help one another grow and develop. For us, the Integral vision points to the ongoing potential to learn and grow and develop at our leading edge, continually more embodied within all our dimensionality, complexity and depth. Our intention is to maintain a safe space for group practice, exploration, insight, and for each of us to gain awareness into our varied strengths and weaknesses, and places where we are all more or less aware. We are aiming to bring the concepts of Integral Theory to a practical familiarity, so we can work with them in the world. We use a combination of group discussion, triad practice, meditations, and other activities tailor-made to support the exploration. The group is for beginners as well as people very familiar with integral theory, and for meditators, yogis, and practitioners from all traditions, faiths, and paths to come together to learn and grow, share and practice together. Integral theory serves as a resource and map to guide our understanding and to point out ways of seeing and places to look. ------------------- There will be a requested contribution of $15 to cover the cost of space rental.
