Let's unite to feed the homeless on DC streets with A "touch of Class" MC

  • This location is shown only to members

We will need volunteers to prepare, donate or distribute prepared bags and hot food to those homeless throughout the Washington Metropolitan area.

We will try to reach more people on this endeavor by giving hot homemade soup, Chili, bread and crackers.  We will need hot beverages, cups, spoons and instant handwarmers.  We were asked by those homeless if we had gloves, warm thick socks, pants size 30-32, underwear, long johns, ski pants, trash bags to keep their belongs dry and a few other things. Remember it's cold and anything to provide a little warmth even if used, will be appreciated.

We will begin distribution in Anacostia where panhandling is much difficult but, food and clothing is much needed.  Any suggestions of locations is appreciated.  We will have a route posted here to help us be more organized and to assist us in reaching more people in need.

Whatever you can do or donate is a great help.

We'll meet you at the metro station. It's important to get a wide distribution.

    February 22, 2014

  • Tamie

We will definitely need help distributing the food and clothes.

GREAT Stephen! I'm up now cooking. 2 Turkeys, stuffing, rice and canned veggies. I responded to your email. If you want to go straight to 14th & K that is fine. If we have food left maybe we can distribute around Union station or those who are sleeping on the grates. See you soon. Thanks so much for helping.

I just read that we're trying to feed 100, so we repackaged things. We're bringing:
    3 cases of bottled water
    100 servings cornbread
    70 servings brownies
5 gal hot chocolate (100 cups)
    box of garbage bags
    2 large bags of clothes
    1 foldout table

Please let me know which is the better place to meet you at Congress Heights Metro or at McPhearson Square (?) directly.

    February 21, 2014

    • Tamie

If you want to ride your bike feel free! Some may ride But I must drive my car to transport food and clothes.

I rode last time. Can't this time cause I'm bringing too much

      February 21, 2014

Thanks Tammy. We'll bring a few cases of bottled water and the clothes. Will also make some cornbread.

We don't have any beverages like water, coffee or cocoa in a large thermos with cups. Water is not only used for drinking but bathing too. So the demand was high last month. How about cupcakes, bread, rolls or cornbread?

    February 20, 2014

  • Jersey

Just a last minute check on what is needed? I'm willing to cook something if you can be specific.

Will be bringing some clothes already.

Great! The menu this month is 2 donated turkeys with stuffn, rice and canned veggies. Since we have no dessert nor bread/rolls that would be helpful . Since I am trying to prepare the containers for easy distribution, I will make the rice this time. We have no beverage so hot coffee or cocoa n one of those large thermos dispensers with cups would be good too. Cupcakes are easy too. How many are we trying to feed? 4 more than Christmas Day=100 people Hope we can stretch 2 turkeys that far. Thank you for helping.

Let me know what's needed. I'll be bringing a few bags of cold weather clothes.

socks, pants, shirts, gloves, hats, trash bags, shoe strings, shoes, boots, safety pins, vaseline, hand warmers, backpacks were a success last time. Any used backpacks will be appreciated. tissues too. Oh, the hot cocoa went over well since it was cold out that day. Your assistance is more valuable than what you bring. Thank you. I could not have reached so many people without you.

Do we still need potatoes and gravy for the turkeys?

      February 11, 2014

  • Tamie

We will utilize the food donated by Mitch this week on 2/22 along with any other food donations such as bread, water, hot beverages or desserts. We were asked about clothes which we did not have except socks, 2 hats, a few gloves and 1 coat. We hope to have various sizes of jeans, sweaters, shirts, tshirts, underclothing and socks. We have to turkeys and canned veggies. Maybe make a turkey veggie soup with noodles along with plates of sliced turkey, veggies, mashed potatoes/rice/gravy? We don't have mashed potatoes nor rice nor gravy. Any volunteers?

Which do they prefer, rice or potatoes? Also how much would you suggest we have? I.e. hire many pounds of potatoes?
