Green Ridge Camping and Dual Sport Ride

To our riders who have Dual Sport or "Adventure" bikes (or are interested in learning more before buying), there is an event coming up the first weekend in May called the Green Ridge Dual Sport Ride.

The actual event - which will be held on Sunday - is a 1-day, 130 miles of scenic gravel and jeep fire roads through the Green Ridge State Forest. Some riders will arrive on Friday or early Saturday for extra riding around the area or bicycling on the nearby C&O Canal Towpath (hybrid or mountain bike recommended - the towpath surface is gravel).

For DS riders, here is the event registration page:
https://www.stonealley.com/program/WMMA/group/GreenRidge

(If you are not planning to ride the Dual Sport course, event registration is not required. Contact Little Orleans Campground directly to reserve your camp site.)

If you do not have a dual sport or adventure bike but would enjoy hanging out and camping with other bikers, the campground is accessible via paved roads and there are some nice paved roads in and around the area to ride while the group runs the course through the woods, there is also lots of history and the nearby PawPaw tunnel to visit.

If you don't know what Dual Sport/Adventure riding is ~ here is a video that does a good job explaining it (this is not from Green Ridge but the terrain is very similar). Essentially it's a street-legal licensed motorcycle designed for on *and* off road riding. These bikes come in all shapes and sizes and open up a whole new world of riding for nature lovers.

Dual Sport riding builds your skills and understanding of traction and balance.  If you have been a street rider and are looking for a new challenge (think 'outward bound on 2 wheels), this is an opportunity to learn about dual sport/adventure riding, the people, the places you can go, the costs, etc. Dual sport riders have a 'can-do' mind set - they are prepared and they are problem-solvers! Tree down in the path? Water crossing? Flat tire? No problem....there are no whiners in this bunch!  Come spend a weekend with nature and check it out!

Hi! Expat...I think we've met but I don't remember your name. Are you still planning to go on this? It sounds very appealing but I was wondering if it makes sense for me to think about going considering that my bike does not have off road tires (just the ones that come by default with FG650s) and I don't have off road experience...

Hey! What was your name again? :) I'm still considering going (usually last minute planner, hehe) and I was wondering about the clothes needed for this? I saw some quite technical ones in a video... I have the usual on road jacket and pants... Probably not the most flexible thing... Any suggestion?

Its Kathy! Dress for the weather but wear protective gear, helmet gloves boots and protection for elbows, knees and chest. Some people wear motocross gear and others wear road gear, its up to you. Gear might get muddy, dusty or wet so be prepared. Hooe to see you there!
