Good evening All, I am so excited!!!! Less than 48 hours before we ride out from RIPS. So, lets ensure we get to the ferry on time by having a full tank of gas, cash/EZPass for the tolls, reservation # and ID handy. A long ride so check your bike (tire pressure, loose screws, fluids). We will be lining up at 8:00am into 2 groups so our kickstands can be up at 8:15am. So no group photo until we can all safely sigh, smile and relax that we made it onto the 11:15am ferry. KC posted the return route I will post the AM route tomorrow. Don't forget to pack your comfy shoes and enjoy the ride, event, beautiful weather and fun people.

Well! I rode in today in the rain. LOL! With rain gear of course.
    Tips from lessons learned!

    1. Bring rain gear!
    2. Fresh pair of socks if your rain gear does not cover your boots or shoes. Second set of dry gloves too! Second shirt as well. Your collar may get wet from water rolling down from your head.
    3. Towel to wipe excess water off you and your bike.
    4. Lastly, Tammy is right it is safer to ride in a group because you have greater visibility. Now with that said. Remember riding on wet surfaces you want to take into account greater stopping distances required. So speed and distance between you and others should be taken into account. Ride safe and be smart! Be aware of speed, others around you and road conditions.

  • Tamie

Ok Riders, I've received messages about "potential" rain on Saturday. Here is my comment. We are going to the Beach where there is water, riding on a ferry surrounded by water...RAIN is just more water. As motorcyclist we should know how to ride during inclement weather and not avoid it. You may get caught riding when it rains. Whatcha gonna do, call a tow truck? The forecast estimates 50% chance of rain between 6 and 8am. Bring rain gear or a jacket. My opinion, I find it is safer to ride in a group in the rain rather than, riding solo because, I am more visible to cars and trucks with a larger #. OK Off my soap box. Have a great day.

Unfortunately, I will have to return. I like the ldea that you and your spouse are staying, returning on the Ferry (really nice) and stopping for lunch. Nice, you two enjoy riding bikes. It's so much to see in this country on two-wheels and a bonus when you can share the magnificent wonder with someone special. Ok off my soap box. (smile) Look forward to meeting you both Saturday

We sometimes ride to Rehobeth and stay overnight and return the next day. Found a nice little hotel with covered parking where the bikes are out of sight. It makes for a great quickie getaway. Rehobeth has a nice outdoor concert area, some excellent street musicians (Shaun Hopper was playing on the street! - google him, he's amazing) and great sushi! We also did a similar trip from Annapolis to Winchester VA. Really starting to like these little one-night stands!

the group will lose the group discount & everyone will have to pay the full rate whether we've paid or not. &, I will lose my $100 reservation fee which will make it difficult for us to obtain future group rates on other events. I purchased my ticket today. When purchasing your ticket mention you are purchasing a ONE-WAY ticket for the Lewes, DE Ferry "going to" Cape May, NJ. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

Last year,KU Riders brought food & snacks like, fried chicken, cheese cubes, crackers, chips, grapes, water cake and cookies to share with other KU riders during the 85 minute ride on the ferry. And, there was plenty. If you wish to bring anything cool or, pack a lunch for yourself . While on the ferry you can purchase hot dogs, prepared sandwiches, pretzels/chips (no hot meals) along with sodas water & coffee. Before you board, did you know there is a grill called "On the rocks" that you can purchase hot food and bring onto the ferry with you? Well, IF, we arrive early enough.

Question for those coming back the same day: are we taking the same ferry back or are we taking some other route (and which one)? are those staying taking a different route?

    July 8, 2013

    • Fred B.

I only purchased a one way ticket on the Ferry. I thought we would be riding directly back home.

      July 8, 2013

it does not matter to me what choice we come back. I just need to know in time to get a ferry ticket back if that's what the group is doing.

      July 9, 2013

  • Tamie

Hello All, (Whew!) I realize a lot of riders do not "check" the site often or are computer savvy so, I'll make this call. The majority of the riders are returning Saturday evening including myself, KC, Kelvin, Hunter, Fred, Karma, Rufus, Ronald, Wayne & Pam leaving at 6:oo p.m. from Atlantic City. We will park at the same parking lot (except for those with hotel accommodations) Walk along the boardwalk, sight-see, lay on the beach, find a place to eat then Meet-up at 5:45 at the bikes for the ride home. AT 6:00 p.m. if your kickstand is not up, we will assume you decided to stay longer & we will depart hoping you are having a great time. This ferry has a dining hall area with plenty of room for us. You can bring food or buy snacks on the ferry. We will gas up again upon disembarking. Ride along the coast to Cape May Beach then continue together up to Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City. (continued below)

    July 8, 2013

  • Tamie

Post #1 continued: Beautiful weather with only a 10% precipitation threat Saturday. Have your Ferry PAID reservation code & ID handy and a full tank of gas. Bring your flip flops to walk around in. You may find lockers to rent. KU RIDERS we will have a great ride and a great time! Don't forget to bring your camera. See you bright and early Saturday.
