So many hikers are scared of challenging Gunung Rajah for different reasons. Nevertheless, the trail is one of the most beautiful tracks in the vicinity of KL. This hike will follow the track to Gunung Rajah, but we will go only until Lata Naning, where also the first campsite on Rajah's slope is located.
When it comes to climbing and ascending this hike is certainly not a challenge. The "difficulty" lies in its distance. The entire hiking distance (to and fro) will be 21km, so for quite some hikers much more than what they are used to - or even have never done earlier...
We will take a long break at the waterfall area, so there is ample of time to relax, play in the water or swim so you can head back to the car completely refreshed.
Physical fitness is more than a prerequisite. Even if you are a less-experienced hiker, you can join us, and enjoy the beautiful hike with its dozens of waterfalls and rapids, while putting your stamina to the test. Please also read the “Beginners” hike message on the message board to avoid all misunderstandings...
We focus on group dynamics and would really appreciate it that more experienced hikers will support their less-experienced peers.
Hopefully carpooling can be arranged and pick-up places will depend on the residence of the participants. For this hike, the carpooling fee is fixed at RM15.00 per passenger. Passengers, please don't wait for your driver to ask for the fee...
It would be nice if you could change the hometown in your profile to the location of your residence (eg USJ 11, Damansara Perdana, SS 7, Sentul, Seksyen 5 Shah Alam, Bandar Puteri Puchong, Ampang, etc...). This will make carpooling efforts much easier.
In order to allow me to communicate directly with the participants, no guests are allowed. At many occasions in the past, guests were not properly briefed by their respective hosts. If you want your guests to participate, ask them to sign up as a member; it's free. They can cancel their membership after the hike if they want to.
Besides the classical hiking tips, please note the following:
-
wear shoes with profile (a pattern on the soles to prevent slipping and gliding)
-
rain gear is recommended
-
pack all your sensitive stuff in your backpack in plastic or waterproof bags
-
bring a towel and some dry clothes/shoes and leave it in the car - passengers also bring some newspapers and towels in order to keep your driver's car as clean as possible
-
bring your swimming stuff along
-
we have to cross one stream
-
a pair of gloves doesn't weigh that much (thorns, roots, trees, mud)
-
bring enough drinks and snacks (carbohydrates). You might need at least three litres of liquids. For this trip isotonic drinks are not a luxury. Dried fruits are preferred over chocolate... Proper nutrition will be a key to your success!
-
leech protection is recommended
-
there are basic restrooms at the car park (if they're not locked...)
-
please be responsible and don't litter – be sure not to leave any rubbish along the track and at the waterfall
For emergency purposes:
-
fill in your IC number and full name on the participation form. We can't tell the rescue services for instance that hiker Tender Heart Bear is missing... We need your real name...
-
if you have a smartphone, install the free apps GPS Coordinates in your phone. In case of an emergency, relay the coordinates to the emergency services via sms.
-
save your emergency contact in your phone under Emergency followed by the name of your contact. Example: Emergency (Tony Fernandez) 012-xxx xxxx
-
save the emergency numbers in your phone under Emergency. Those numbers are 999 and 112. The latter will work well for mobiles and sms.
-
be sure that the battery of your mobile phone is fully charged.
-
there are wonderful apps for smartphones such as whistles, flash lights, sos buttons, etc. However keep in mind that they all feed on the same battery...
-
bring a whistle, a headlamp and your personal first aid kit. We don't expect the worst, but we want to be prepared for the worst...
