An Opportunity and a Challenge to K-Town Vegans - Everyone, please respond by Wednesday

K-Town Vegans,

I have just won a "lottery" of life. What normally takes months of effort and cajoling, just fell into my lap. I need your support and advice whether we take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

My "lottery win" is a leading doctor in the vegan medical movement has generously offered to speak to our group. Dr. Michael Greger, physician, author, professional speaker, Director Humane Society, expert witness, can speak to us on Wed March 6, 2013.

Dr. Greger is a leading pillar of the vegan community along with Drs. Neil Barnard, John McDougall, Caldwell Esselstyn, T. Colin Campbell, and Dean Ornish. He delivers with entergaining sense of humor and straight faced irony the recent medical research and practical vegan advice. He offers CDs, books, DVDs with proceeds donated to charity. We are truly fortunate to be offered this opportunity.

The challenge - our K-Town Vegan group has grown at an amazing pace from a handful to over 100 members in a few years. We are capable of hosting this event, but it needs a personal commitment from each member. We need a commitment of 100 attendees willing to pay $5-$10 to cover airfare costs.

To keep costs low, Dr. Greger has accepted being hosted in our home and we will provide meals and local transportation. We have heard Dr Greger speak at national events costing much more. This opportunity is a bargain. But it's up to you.

Reply to this email - define your commitment level. We will need flyers, publicity, event hosts, "ticket sales", and more. No time for long discussion. Reply by Wednesday.

Your responses will determine whether we proceed with this event. Let's discuss quickly as I need to respond to Dr. Greger this week.

Thank you,

We would like to attend the Dr. Greger event if our schedule permits. We can go ahead and pay for two seats. laughing

K-Town Vegans,

I am sad to report the March 6 event with Dr. Michael Greger will not occur. The logistics became too complicated and too costly for Dr. Greger to include Knoxville in his speaking schedule at this time.

A goal of our K-Town vegan group may be to host this event at a later date. To be financially feasible, we need to build an audience of 300 at a prominent venue, such as UT campus auditorium where we can draw students and broad public appeal. This will require building alliances with other community and educational organizations.

If we hold your $5 fee, we will refund it when we see you. Please ask if we forget.

Thank you for your support and enthusiam. Happy Holidays!

Janice Church
