Sci-Fi/Fantasy Writing and Critique Group (Sinchon)
***PLEASE NOTE: We are trying out a new venue this time. See below for directions.*** This is a low-key hangout and critique group for writers of science fiction, fantasy, and related genres. At our meetings we usually talk a bit, discuss at least one member submission, do some timed writing exercises, and go out for lunch afterwards. This week we will be reviewing pieces by Brianna and Han. They will be posted soon on our Google Group, which you can join by going here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/seoul-sff-writers (https://groups.google.com/forum/#%21forum/seoul-sff-writers) and requesting admission. You can also message Kate with your preferred email to be added manually. Please try to read the story prior to the meeting so that we can have a good discussion. --- 1) Introductions for new members. 2) Touch base re: everyone's current projects. How has your progress been since the last meeting? Are there any issues or questions (technical, stylistic, or research-related) you'd like the group's input on? Has anyone submitted anything for publication? Does anyone need beta readers for ongoing projects? What are your plans for the next two weeks? (Accountability to an audience can be a great way to encourage projects. If you'd rather not share, that's fine, too. :)) 3) Discuss the submitted writing sample. Please be sure to read the sample before the meeting! We usually give oral feedback, but you're also welcome to bring or email written notes if you'd prefer. Remember, the writing sample will be available on our Google Group (see above), and you'll need to join the group to see it. 4) Timed writing. We'll choose a prompt together and write independently for 20 minutes. Please bring something to write with! Afterward, anyone who wants to can share their piece. How would you polish and edit this piece? What finished form do you see it taking? 5) Decide agenda for next meeting (3/27). Does anyone have a piece they would like to share? --- We will probably have lunch after the meeting somewhere in Sinchon. --- We will be meeting at a study cafe called Dreams Ring (꿈꾸는 반지하). Their largest rooms have twelve seats, so attendance for this meetup is capped at twelve. Please keep your status up to date! Cost: There is a small meeting-room fee (I believe it's about 3,000 won per person for two hours.) There is also a small cafe if you'd like to buy coffee. Directions to Dreams Ring: Come out of Sinchon Subway Station Exit 1. Walk straight, and then turn RIGHT at Natuur. Keep following the street without turning (the street bends slightly to the left). You will come to Hyundae UPlex on the right (that little plaza with the big red sculpture shaped like a curved pipe). When you are there, look to your left, and you will see a diagonal street and a small triangular park. Cut across the street and the park and turn left onto the little street that borders the park. 꿈꾸는 반지하 is directly across from the park in the basement of one of the buildings. Sorry, the sign is only in Korean, but there should be a little folding sign out front with pictures of some of the rooms. If you see Pie Hole on your right, you have gone too far! Text[masked] if you get lost. Hope to see you there!

활동 계획

This group is for anyone interested in sci-fi, fantasy, or supernatural horror. The idea is to do a wide variety of things--museum tours, movie nights, book discussions, art/writing meetups--so whatever your specific interests, we'll try to have things for you to enjoy. At the moment all planned Meetups are in English, but if you'd like to run a subgroup in Korean or any other language we'd be delighted to have you.

Time: Will vary depending on activity. Saturday is best for me, but we'll try to be flexible so everyone's able to make it at least part of the time.

Place: Usually central Seoul. However, if something special comes up we can make forays outward. Please let us know when you join what times and places are most convenient for you!

Our first meeting is a general meet-and-greet (http://www.meetup.com/Seoul-SFF/events/178548862/) on May 17th. Hope to see you there!
