Go-Karts & Tex-Mex -

Description of activity:

We're all going to be enjoying the wonderful experience of a short workweek this first part of October. Let's celebrate it, and the generally excellent fall weather, by getting in a low-slung ride and taking some curves.

In a kart, I should say.

If you've never heard of them, and never played Mario Kart [for shame!] a kart is a small, typically 4-stroke gas-engine-powered vehicle designed essentially for fun. They sit quite low to the ground and usually can go about 20 MPH. It may not sound like much but given the right curves as mentioned, and their size, driving them can pack quite a kick. Or punch. Or whatever.

Meet at: Sports Complex Station (종합운동장역), Green - Line 2, exit 7.

There is a pretty decent kart track here in Seoul, in Jamsil specifically, near the stream/creek/river/ditch which separates Gangnam from Jamsil.

Website: Korean Kart

Exact address of Go-Kart place:[masked] Jamsil dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, Korea

Costs are: About KRW 15,000 for 15-20 minutes of karting. Be aware that time flies when you're on a kart so bring cash accordingly. Sprint karts are double the price, if you can get one.

Activities you can do there:

It is essentially a small, short clone of an F1 style track. Driving it is quite similar to actual racing, complete with hairpin turns, spinouts and punchy straightaways.

This track also has what are called SprintKarts. These little monsters can do 80 MPH and pull 1.5 Gs on a sharp turn. Obviously you need to really know what you're doing before they will let you take one of them out. Realistically it wouldn't happen for anyone the first time, but for this Meetup it's likely we can watch the 'pros' at their finest during the day, as well as drive/race ourselves.

Afterwards, let's head out to the American chain On the Border, maker of the best Tex-Mex food in Korea.I know that's not necessarily saying much in the land of of 2 hour waits for Vatos Urban Tacos, but it really is pretty good. All the standard stuff, quesadillas, burritos, fajitas, decent salsa. You can customize your order pretty well and best of all they DON'T Koreaify their stuff. No kimchi-flavored anything, no red pepper sauce, no red bean paste. Vegetarians should be OK too.

On the Border, or OTB:

There are several of these in Seoul. We will NOT be going to the Coex location due to a large shopping 'festival' taking place this weekend with attendant crowds. Instead we will go to the new location at IFC Seoul on Yeouido Island.

OTB depends on what you want to eat. It's a middle-upper range place here, so I would suggest between 30 and 40,000 based on appetite and drinking capacity.

IF it rains on the 7th, we CANNOT do the racing so we will head straight to the Tex-Mex, for lunch instead of dinner. We may include some screen-based shooting and other games at one of the better arcades as well.

Hope to see you there!

Exit 7 of Sports Complex Station. I tend to wait about 10 minutes for people to arrive; after that anyone can call me at[masked] if they need more information or help.
