IMPORTANT NOTE: YOU MUST ARRIVE BEFORE 7 PM BEFORE BUILDING SECURITY CLOSES FOR THE EVENING!
Please join us for an evening with two distinguished speakers making two very different presentations that discuss the topic of performance in data analytics by Peter Wang and Alok Dutt (talk descriptions and bios below).
Peter Wang of Anaconda will speak about: "Vectors, Graphs, and Scale: Many different approaches to performance"
Abstract: I will look at the recent evolution of numerical computing tools across languages, as well as the rise of a new generation of scalable computing architectures from chips to datacenters. With this, we will also approach the question of what the future might hold for different technology communities and professions. For instance, when will "data science" transition from being a job to being a mere job function?
Bio: Peter Wang is co-founder and CTO of Anaconda Inc, the most popular Python data science platform provider, with 2.5 million downloads per month (formerly known as Continuum Analytics).
Expert kdb+/q programmer Alok Dutt will speak about: “High-performance real-time analytics and automated trading applications using kdb+/q.”
Abstract: Automation for a large organization is an increasingly important and complex endeavor. One of the main challenges is the creation of good core application frameworks for rapid development and integration into existing heterogeneous computing environments across different teams. In this talk I will present some ideas and examples of how this can be achieved most effectively to create intelligent, performant and scalable business applications using KDB+/Q.
Bio: Alok Dutt has extensive experience in the areas of quantitative finance and automated trading spanning a variety of asset classes and products, and is currently Head of Equity Analytics at Citigroup.
