August Meetup: Formal Presentations

  • Aug 27, 2012 · 7:00 PM

On Monday, August 27th, we'll be meeting at io/LA, a co-working space and incubator in the Hollywood area.  This month will feature presentations.

We're pleased to have Ben from Joyent speaking.  You may also enjoy Ben's site:

The DevOps Transformation

Ben Rockwood, Director of Cloud Operations, Joyent

A look at the evolution of devops and its future within the IT industry.

Dan and Nick from will also be speaking: Discuss Their Stack

Dan Bosan and Nick Messick,

We just upgraded our infrastructure to latest Ruby, Postgres, Rails (3.0 not later than that), Unicorn and switched from Node.js to Pubnub.

We will discuss our use of Rubber, how we came to those decisions and the different things we discovered while doing the steps below, as well as how this has affected our performance in our site.

This month we are sponsored by EdgeCast and SMCI.

As always, the meetup will start at 7pm, with talks starting around 7:30pm.  Drinks and food are provided.

io/LA has a parking structure directly behind the building, and you can enter off El Cerrito Pl (which intersects with Hollywood Blvd).  Mention LA Dev/Ops to the attendent, who will drop the cost of parking to $6 (from $13).  Also notice this location is close to public transportation. Here is a map:

See you there!

Pretty good. I was hoping for a more technical presentation however the speaker did talk about some very interesting and important things that are pretty useful.
