Come join us for "Ask An Atheist" at Lancaster Central Market!
This event will run from 10am to 1pm. PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE DESCRIPTION.
This is always an uplifting event and a great way to introduce ourselves to the community, educate people about atheism, and advertise our organization to other area freethinkers. You don't need to be an "Atheism expert" or practiced debater. Just be willing to honestly answer any questions you are willing to.
PLEASE bring a folding chair or chair-in-a-bag as sitting Atheists seem less threatening to the public. Our previous Ask An Atheist days have been very successful and well received by the public. In all the years we have been doing AAA, we have never had altercation beyond a handful of people talking a little too loudly so no worries about safety.
Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Clothing that would be just fine while walking around might be completely inadequate if sitting in one place for a long period of time. If the forecast calls for inclement weather, please check this event page before you leave the house. Any delays or cancellations will be posted here.
We will be set up right off of the square formed by the intersection of King and Queen streets near the upper entrance to Lancaster Central Market and alongside the right side of the visitors center.
Look for this sign:
We will be there to answer questions, not to argue or convert. If that is what you are looking for, or if you have a hard time keeping your temper in check, then you might want to sit this one out. This is all about dispelling myths and misconceptions about Atheists, including the idea of the "Angry Atheist".
Please be sure you can make it before you RSVP. All are welcome to drop by but I need a minimum amount of two participants so that there is always someone to watch the chairs and sign if one needs to use the restroom or get something to eat from market. If you RSVP yes please make sure you indicate how sure you are that you will be able to attend this event. If there are less than two people with a solid "yes" the event will not take place.
Parking is available in the lots surrounding Market st. and at meters in the surrounding area. There is also a parking garage nearby on the corner of Prince and Orange streets. There are bathrooms on site and food and drink available in the market.
