The Eastside and Westside Ruby Study Groups meet-up again, this time at Pivotal Labs in Santa Monica. The fabulous people of Pivotal have benevolently lent us their space and time and will host the event for the evening. 

Pivotal Labs - A representative from Pivotal Labs will give an short talk about what they do and what they are up to. Later in the evening they will answer your questions  about Pivotal Labs and Pivotal Tracker.

Gem Overview - Anna Mendoza will discuss the history of gems, what a gem is and several gems of interest.

Pulling a Gem out of your App - Joanna Zeta & Vyki Englert are working with Rails Girls Summer of Code on the open source project Discourse. They are pulling a feature out of the Discourse app and creating a gem out of it. They will discuss their process and their trials and errors. 

Create a Gem - Make it a CLI Executable - Add an Rspec Test 
Jen Diamond will demo this hands-on workshop where we will create a simple lorem ipsum gem, turn it into a terminal command and then run a test on it. This will clearly demonstrate the structure of a gem and the structure of a test.
