Details
Hi all,
This is one of a few backpacking trips I have planned. Fellow backpackers, please feel free to DM me!
I am happy to share the full itinerary upon request. In a nutshell,
- Meet at Sunol Visitor Center around noon on Saturday, July 26th 2025
- We will hike this trail https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/rose-peak-from-sunol
- Total length: 17.8mi
- Total elevation gain: 3,927ft
- We will likely drop our packs and set up a tent around mile 3 or 4
- Then, we will day hike the rest to Rose Peak, the highest peak in Alameda County
Please aim to hike about 3-4 miles with your backpack (tent & other gears) and 12 miles without backpack on Saturday!
- On Sunday, we will enjoy a slow morning before packing up our tents and gear
Please aim to hike about 3-4 miles with your backpack on Sunday
Things to bring
- Your big 4 (Tent, Sleeping bag, Sleeping pad, Backpack)
- Spoon, Cup
- Freeze dried food
I will likely have other backpacking gears and we can share!
Expected expenses
- Parking fee (~$5)
- Permit fee (~$4)
- Camping fee (~$8)
Who should join
- Experienced campers wanting to get into backpacking
- Seasoned hikers looking for a quick getaway
- Half Dome enthusiasts (as this trail is a perfect training for the famous Half Dome hike in Yosemite because of their similarity in distance and elevation gain)
A few disclaimers
- All experience levels are welcome! I'm not a group leader—just someone who loves backpacking and is happy to share tips and tricks. But I'm by no means a guide
- Everyone is expected to assess their own physical limits and participate at their own risk
- Image sourced from the internet and used for illustrative purposes only; it does not depict the actual scenery of our hiking destination
