Hügelkultur

Details

Hügelkultur or "mound culture" is a practice originating in Germany in the 1960s. As the story goes, a gardener was inspired by the diversity and abundance of plants sprouting spontaneously out of a pile of woody debris in his grandmother's garden and started purposefully building the piles. Now popular in permaculture circles, advocates promote hügelkultur as a way of utilizing woody debris while creating beds that retain more moisture and soil fertility.

Come out and make a mound together! Dress ready to get dirty and bring a dish to share - we'll end with a potluck lunch.
