World Wide Knit and Crochet Day

In honour of Knit and Crochet in Public day we're having woolly picnic in Victoria Park. case of bad weather we'll relocate to New Walk Museum (cafe or foyer depending on how many we are).

Bring your current project or use some of your excess cotton and wool to help a premature baby stay warm and snug  (see below).

The neonatal units in Leicester need tiny baby clothes for their young patients. It's a great way to use up excess yarn and an easy way to brighten up the day for some worried parents. Here are some patterns to start with - hats, cardigans and blankets seem to have highest priority and the clothes should be machine washable, preferably cotton....or woll (if machine washable and not itchy).

You can either hand over your knitted/crocheted donation directly at the neonatal units at Leicester General or Leicester Royal infirmary or drop it off at Knit One any time in June - we'll pass it on to the neonatal units at the end of June.

Hope to see lots of you there - let's dazzle the citizens of Leicester with our knitting and crochet aptitude.  :)

despite the rain I think we managed a pretty decent indoor "picnic" at New Walk. :)

here's a link to the elephant hat pattern

....there was something else I was supposed to add a link to but I can't remember what it was.

I'm on my way...just running a bit late as I've had to wait for a lift there. See you soon x p.s. if you want to head to the museum if it's raining, don't wait for me, I'll meet you all there ;) (if anyone reads this in time, just send me a little text where you're heading as I can't access Meetup on my phone [masked]

0-5% chance of rain tomorrow afternoon - perfect for a picnic in the park. I'll try to be there a little before 1pm (with improvised knitted bunting) so it'll be easy for everyone to find the picnic. see you there.

I've nearly finished my first baby cardigan! Might have enough of the wool to make the matching hat! Can't quite believe I can follow a knitting pattern now. I was a little confused and it has a few imperfections but I'm sure it'll be appreciated :)

We still need a good indoor location as back up. It would be fun if it was somewhere more public than just hiding away inside a cafe. so far the cafe in New Walk Museum or the bus station has been suggested. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I think the museum is a great idea :) There's the cafe and the re-opened Victorian Gallery!

Angela has already checked with New Walk Museum and they'd be happy to have us, so that's plan B taken care of.

How about meeting for a knitting and crochet picnic in Victoria park - should the weather turns sour we can escape to Knit One.

I won't be able to make this, as I have a family event. But anything that gets made for the LRI, I will be able to drop in, if people bring the to the next meet up I can make (although don't think I'll be able to make any for most of June).

Leicester Royal Infirmary need tiny baby clothes for their neonatal unit. I suggest knitting for them instead - it gives us more options of what to knit and it would be nice for a Leicestershire event to benefit a local charity. What do you think?
