The Existence of God? Answers from the Age of Enlightenment
Details
Forget Athos, Porthos, and Aramis—we’re gathering the Age of Enlightenment's heavy hitters: Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, and Pascal, for an end of the year discussion on the ultimate question: Does God exist? And if so, just what kind of God?
Where earlier thinkers looked to the divine through poetry, scripture, or moral intuition, our “Four Musketeers” brought a new weapon of the Enlightenment: Reason. They weren’t cloistered academics, they were polymaths—scientists, mathematicians, and physicists—using geometry and logic to probe the infinite. Yet, does that new approach change anything for us?
Join us December 20th at 3pm, at the Bingham Davis House as LexSophia explores how their radical methods recast God in a new light and what their arguments still mean for us today.
As always, no prior reading is required. The one-sheet will be provided and we’ll walk through it together. Expect a mix of friendly argument, curious questions, and some serious brain-stretching about infinity, nature, evil, and what we even mean when we say “God.” Hope to see you there!
