Our Hideous Progeny

Details
Note the date change! In early August we'll discuss C.E. McGill's debut novel, Our Hideous Progeny. It is a literary revisiting of Mary Shelley’s classic Frankenstein with a fresh, queer, provocative twist. Determined to follow in the scientific footsteps of her great uncle Victor Frankenstein, Mary Saville and her husband construct their Creature and Mary finds herself contemplating disturbing questions and unexpected feelings for the hideous progeny she's grown to love. Author McGill calls this book "a love letter to women in science and the fascinating history of Victorian paleoart." McGill continues, "Are you a fan of Victorian mad science? Gothic gays? Women who are angry, and ambitious, and covered in blood? Then OHP may be for you!" Fellow author Susan Stokes Chapman writes that McGill's debut novel "echoes the dark essence of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein while maintaining a fascinating originality all of its own." Published in 2023, Our Hideous Progeny was shortlisted for the Lambda Literary Award, among others. It is available in local libraries and online sources and is available as an audio book, narrated by Florence Howard. An extra week between meetings gives everyone time to read this 391 page book -- come join us Saturday, August 2nd!
