regular second-saturday-of-the-month BOOK GROUP.
Usual format (see below); plus pre-Christmas jollity and gaiety:)
PLEASE BRING SOMETHING CHRISTMASSY TO EAT/DRINK( NO ALCOHOL): to SHARE (but see warnings below)
eg soft drinks, mince pies, crisps, cake; ie stuff that does NOT require cooking/re-heating 0r refrigeration!
If you have special dietary requirements and/or allergies,(eg health-related, vegan, allergies); please bring your OWN appropriate food; and please take responsibility to check any food provided by anyone else(eg for allergic contents, or if vegan/vegetarian, dairy/gluten-free etc)
You could also bring paper cups(plates and cutlery provided)

We choose books in turn; after you have attended twice, you get to go on the choosing books rota!
(we have read sci-fi/dystopia, literary fiction, lgbtq content/author,historical and much more)

THIS MONTH:
Part 1:
We discuss "The Moon Is Down"(John Steinbeck), including Steinbeck's own Preface.
It tells of an invading force, and collaboration by the town which has been invaded; World War 2 Propaganda, in one sense,it is also an exploration of resistance, and the strength of the human spirit; Steinbeck's own preface explores what he was trying to achieve in the book.
SHORT BREAK
Part 2: a discussion on :
"The worth {or not...} of fiction with a specific educational or propaganda remit"
ALSO,
{1 x each!} (fiction)BOOK RECOMMENDATION of the Year!
LGBTQ NOTICEBOARD(other LGBTQ events, not necessarily book-related)
In Part 2, we can imbibe non-alcohol drinks and nibble, whilst we discuss; then chat informally!

VENUE/LOCATION:
We are at THE FRIENDS' MEETING HOUSE(QUAKERS),22 School Lane,off Hanover St,Liverpool L1 3BT; ENTRANCE: 22 School Lane ; central Liverpool location.
WE MEET 11.45-12 , in the FOYER of the Friends Meeting House(entrance School Lane).

If you arrive after 12, please ask their Receptionist what room we are in, they will direct you; and please knock on the door!
ACCESSIBILITY:
This whole venue, including all booked rooms) is accessible for wheelchairs/other motility aids.
There is a lift(wheelchair accessible) to all floors
THERE ARE TWO self-contained "TOILETS FOR ALL"

COST:
£5 per person.
This is purely to cover room rental and the Organiser's Meet Up subscription costs; no profit is made; we are unfunded.
Please pay -at the start of event- to Steve(Host and Organiser), preferably in cash; but he can give his bank details(again, pay at the start of the event)

FACILITIES:
There is no cafe; but we can use one of their kitchens(there is one on each floor, some rooms have one attached!)
Please bring own food(not needing heating/refrigeration); coffee/tea/milk(cows only) and sugar provided by our regulars:)
Venue kitchen has crockery cups cutlery.
And/or : You can bring take -out drinks and food(not requiring heating/reheating)
If you want NON-cows milk, please bring your own(there is a fridge)
