Nice people. They really tried and I got an email this morning from one of the guys. I hope I have the resources to make this meetup better.

If you are interested in learning different aspects of Linux; go beyond the cozy comfortable Ubuntu/Fedora facade. Use your operating system as the tool that it is to have tons of fun and regain some control and independence that the commercial OS' have stolen from you. Don't expect for things to change over-night but with patience and dedication this group will lead you out of the darkness of Redmond and into the light of the world; <jumping off pulpit>.

As an end user, my primary interest is meeting with other linux users who use linux on the desktop. I am also interested in trends in this area. Unlike NYLUG, NY GNU appears to be better targeted to my interests and skill level. While there is a wealth of good linux resources on the 'net, nothing can replace face to face interaction. Dialogue is key. I can get questions answered from experts and, by listening to conversations, pick up useful tips. My impression is that most attendees are established members of the group and many work in IT (sysAdmins, DBAs, developers, etc.) on linux. I think they have a wealth of experience and expertise to offer but also would demand, from me, very targeted questions (eg - I need to have done my homework first). I'm also interested in participating in the linux community.
