Our Mini Conditioning Hikes consist of tackling those dreaded hills you happily skip on "standard" hikes. They are designed for strong hikers, and moderate hikers to test and extend themselves. They are typically short, last one to two hours, and end up on safe easy trails.
This time we will capture Adventist Hill at the southern end of Hill Canyon. Hike will be a 2.5 mile loop -- but what a 2.5 miles! We start out with a mild 0.5 mile, 200' westward descent to the headwaters of Hill Canyon. From there we turn south toward dreaded Adventist Hill. This segment consists of a 750' elevation gain over a short 0.7 miles (yikes!).
We'll climb the hill as best as we can, each at his/her own pace, and regroup at the top with a snack break. Don't forget: what goes up must come down! We then descend 500' along 1.0 mile ridge to the car.
I'll be marking the trail along the way for those that lag behind or want to do a partial hike.
Bring a bottle of water, a rewarding snack for the top, good lugsoles, hat, sunscreen.
