FULL - Coyote Ridge Wildflower Tour

You are invited to join the Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter for a special springtime experience in one of the most beautiful places in our region: Coyote Ridge in a full bloom. Located in south San Jose, Coyote Ridge has one of the most diverse ecosystems in all of California and contains over 400 species of native plants and wildflowers. Normally closed to the public, this wildflower tour will provide you with the unique opportunity to see several federally listed, endemic species including the largest remaining population of the threatened Bay Checkerspot butterfly, as well as many rare and uncommon plant species.

Craige Edgerton, a long-time local open space advocate, will take us on a journey through endemic plant communities tying in the harmful effects of air pollution on this local natural wonder and how cattle grazing can be used as a conservation tool.

Breathtaking views and natural history discussions will be plentiful.

The hike will begin at 1:00 pm, and we will reach the top of the ridge around 2:30pm where we enjoy a late lunch with cool beverages (there will be vegetarian and vegan options). We will be back at base of Coyote Ridge no later 5:00 pm. Please wear sturdy walking shoes, layered attire, bring 2 liters of water per person. Binoculars and cameras are recommended. This is a moderate hike with many discussion stops but a few steep points. If you are concerned about being physically able to make it to the top of the ridge, feel free to call Megan Medeiros:[masked]-9604.

As we will hike in a federally-protected place, our meeting spot will be disclosed only to the participants who register. Space is limited to 35 people, early registration is advised.

The Coyote Ridge Spring Wildflower Tour is being organized as a fundraiser for the Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter’s 80th Anniversary Campaign.

Tour was fun and informative. The docents were knowledgeable and the food was good.

I wish there were better instructions on how to be truly registered for this hike. I was looking forward to it. I'm disappointed.

Not day of hike. I was under the impression that I had untill today to pay. I had called the office several times during the week, but always received voicemail instructions. I went to the website today since I never connected with a person. Only then realized it was sold out and didn't have a place reserved. I think stating that rsvp did not insure your place in the que and that the roster was really through the other site. I think a clear statement that meetup was the conduit and not the terminal would have helped me in this instance. I really enjoy your organization and will continue to support it.

FYI: When I RSVP'd, the confirmation screen said that you could pay on the day of the hike.

I need to have a vague idea where this is before paying. How far is it from San Francisco, for example? Thanks.
