Secrets for Controlling Energy Use in Larger Homes

Secrets for Controlling Energy Use in Larger Homes
Thursday, August[masked]:30pm

Portola Valley Community Hall, 765 Portola Road
Simulcast via webinar (register online)

Think your home may be wasting energy? You’re probably right!

Some of the electronic systems in larger homes may be needlessly drawing excess power every month. In this presentation, we’ll show you simple ways to fine tune the way equipment is set up to save energy and reduce costs -- without sacrificing enjoyment -- right now.

Find the common culprits and learn how to control them with our simple strategies
• Lighting systems
• Whole house audio
• Integrated entertainment systems
• Heated floors
• Hot tubs and pools
• Hot water recirculation pumps

Participate in the event in one of two ways...
1. In person following the Portola Valley Farmers’ Market. Come at 6:30pm for light appetizers before the event starts!
2. Online. Go to for more information and to register for the webinar.

Who should attend? Home owners, contractors, architects, real estate professionals, and others

Presented at no cost by the Town of Portola Valley, San Mateo County Energy Watch, and Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Questions? Call[masked]-1403.

Presenter: Chris Hunt
Chris Hunt is the founder and a principal at PowerDown, an energy consulting service that provides electricity audits to homeowners in Northern California. He has developed a technique for circuit-by-circuit analysis of electricity usage in the home that helps determine and eliminate wasteful background power draw. Chris started PowerDown to help SF Bay Area residents realize the economic and environmental benefits of energy conservation. His clients have saved anywhere from 15% to 35% month over month after a PowerDown audit. Previously, Chris served as a Managing Director at Silicon Valley Bank, senior management positions at several startups and in marketing and product management positions at Adobe and Oracle.

San Mateo County Energy Watch is a partnership with PG&E and the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County. It is funded by California utility customers, administered by PG&E under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
