Dr. Black, Mr Hyde (1976) - Genesis Bar Trash Night
Details
Bar Trash nights at the Genesis are great, even if the movies themselves aren't exactly Oscar material. People hang out in the bar watching B-movie schlock, there are intros, spot prizes and it's just a really fun night out for just a fiver (incl. booking fee). Unless you regard cinema as a sacred art form or something.
Although it's loosely based on the original Jekyll and Hyde story, Dr Black, Mr Hyde gives it a blaxploitation twist. Genius African American scientist Henry Pride conducts dangerous experiments in his quest to invent a cirrhosis cure but only comes up with a formula that changes him into a violent, depraved, light-skinned monster. Yes, the subtext is a bit heavy, but you can forgive that in the context of the original adaptation.
And hey, the movie may not be a masterpiece, but the trailer certainly is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jviwL1h-kQQ
