Nashvile (1975)

Who says we never go to good movies in this group? Nashville is a 10/10 masterpiece, the high point to the career of one of the greatest directors of the last 60 years. If you haven't seen it, you should. It still holds the record for Golden Globe nominations in a single year and also got a fair few Oscar nominations in a stacked year.

As with some of Robert Altman's other key films, the action follows a criss-crossing array of characters and features a lot of improvisation. It takes place over a five-day stretch in the country music capital of the world, leading up to a gala concert for an underdog Republican candidate for the next general election. There are also, appropriately, a lot of original songs.
