He isn't too well known in the west but Oldřich Lipský was one of the most interesting filmmakers of the 60s and 70s, a Czech director prone to the surreal whose best known works include a western where a soft-drink hocking gunfighter takes on a town of drunks and a film that chronicles a person's life starting at his death and going backward to his birth (Martin Amis may have been taking note).

Adela Has Not Had Supper Yet is a madcap comedy that takes place in Prague at the end of the century. A famous American detective has been summoned for a minor case, only to be sidetracked by a series of plant-based murders. This has drawn comparisons to both Mel Brooks (past) and Inspector Gadget (future) and heavily features work by legendary animator Jan Švankmajer, who went on to his own influential work with Alice a decade later.
