Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974)
Details
Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia flopped on release, just like Sam Peckinpah's previous movie, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, but has picked up a sizeable cult following since, with people drawn both to its atmosphere of strange, desperate outcasts and nihlistic violence, and to its title, which has been ripped off and parodied here, there and everywhere.
So, what's it about? Warren Oates plays a retired American army officer, down on his luck, who gets drawn into a macarbe plot after a Mexican crime boss puts a million-dollar bounty on the man who impregnated his daughter. Or his head, anyway. Man, was there anyone better at playing desperate, middle-aged outcast losers than Oates?
Look, why don't you let the trailer explain it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYfP4Y940Ew
Tickets are here and it's an early one. I have an all-night Twin Peaks marathon to go to that night (as you can see in the listings) and I wouldn't mind getting some sleep in between. So, why don't we meet outside just before and maybe grab a takeaway coffee afterwards?
