Workshop: Explore Exposure

Develop Advanced Camera Skills

On the Explore Exposure workshop you will learn how to use your camera’s advanced settings to evaluate the light in a scene and produce more accurate images.

The workshop is aimed at improver photographers with cameras that have advanced settings and who are looking for an intermediate course.

The Explore Exposure workshop will put you firmly in control of the camera by teaching you which settings to use to technically expose correctly for the scene in front of you:

  • The differences between under- and over-exposed photos
  • About histograms and how they are helpful with exposure
  • The why and how of different exposure metering modes
  • How and where to take a meter reading
  • All about the nifty exposure compensation and exposure lock

Throughout the workshop, all photographic terms will be explained in a jargon free manner. You’ll understand the technicalities behind exposure and how to use the appropriate settings.

Step-by-step, you’ll be shown how the camera takes a meter reading, where to take your exposure from, how to check if your photo is correctly exposed and what to do when it isn’t.

This workshop is aimed at improvers, so you will get the most out of it if you have grasped the basics and already completed Camera Settings.

Explore Exposure is complemented by Switch To Manual, which together have been designed to give you a full day – both technically and creatively – of extending your photographic capabilities. When taken together on the same day this qualifies you for a £5 discount off each workshop; that’s 6 hours of photography for £80.

You will need a SLR or a compact camera with advanced functions to attend this workshop. If you are not sure if your compact has the relevant settings (e.g. metering modes and histograms) please get in contact and I’ll find out for you.

“Very useful and has made me look at exposure more seriously.” Gandha

“This was a brilliant course – simple techniques that have made such a difference to my photos. I spent the afternoon after the workshop doing the ‘tourist bit’. Loads of good photos thanks to the morning’s tuition. See you again soon.” Sue

“Excellent way to spend an afternoon – the presentation & teaching was clear & relevant. It was easy to ask any question, however basic or stupid it may have been. I am amazed how much DSLRs can achieve once the owner/user knows the full technical know how!” Julinie
