  • Creative Class Meet Up : February 20th
It's been a while.... But back with a vengeance and determined to bring something useful, fun, though provoking every month this year. A new format so not just "training" but bringing in speakers from industry to share their wealth of experience with us all This month we have 3 speakers / sessions and maybe even some free beer !! We have our regular favourite - Tony Harmer _ from Adobe coming in to present At Least Ten Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Creative Cloud You’ve probably either had your nose so close to the grindstone to notice what your Creative Cloud account actually includes, or you’ve decided to listen to nay-sayers and not bothered to look. Your FOMO alarm should be ringing really loud—there are many features and benefits that are overlooked and they could be saving you time and money. In this session @tonyharmer from Adobe will reveal a minimum of ten amazing CC facts, features and functions that you probably didn’t even know were there. and also Michael Murdoch - The House Title: How to write a killer brief? Description: Join Michael Murdoch, Founder of The House branding and communications agency, as he shares over 15 years experience collaborating with clients and partners to deliver fantastic brands, animations, films, websites and apps. Michael has worked with organisations of all sizes such as the NHS, MTV, Fairtrade, Diabetes UK, Boots and Nokia to smaller start-ups like Olive Branch, Mixcloud and Readwave. In this workshop you’ll discover the best ways to write the creative brief, the key questions to ask, hiccups to avoid along the way and the most effective way to deliver great projects. Tassos Koutlas - Cameron&Wilding Title: Bridging the gap between atomic design and the editorial experience. Keeping both designers and content editors happy through a modern CMS. Description: In this talk we will explore the way atomic design principles can expand into a content management system with a componetised content model. Through the model editors have an number of content components that can mix and match creating dynamic templates. The use of components result in systems that offer more opportunities to incorporate new design and development paradigms. Coupling the delivery methodology into an agile process such as SCRUM allows for fully cross functional teams with content, design and coding all happening at the same time giving organisations maximum control over their budgets and delivery times. Sound good?

  • Server side development for Flash developers (using NodeJS)
Learn to create web applications using NodeJS! Join our FREE Server side development for Flash developers meet-up with Leon Baird, one of Academy Class' most experienced trainers. Client/Front-end development is only part of the process when creating web content. Often server side code needs to be written to create a full web-based experience. It used to mean developers having to learn auxiliary languages like PHP, ASP or JSP and MySQL. NodeJS is a new way of working that creates fast and easy ways to make full web applications using both front and back end development. But, the main attraction is that NodeJS uses Javascript in its code base. This makes it easy for developers to get started with server-side development, and MongoDB brings databases into the world of Javascript as well. During the talk, a full working web application will be created using NodeJS, MongoDB, Jade and Express. It will take advantage of new WebSocket technologies in HTML5 and NodeJS. Don't miss out on the opportunity to learn to create a fully working chatroom application from scratch!

  • Topic 1: JavaScript Task Runners; Topic 2: Panic Driven Development
In this meetup we will be having two speakers who will cover two different topics. Topic 1 Attention: "JavaScript Task Runners" topic will be REPLACED by "Bootstrap your ideas" as one of the speakers cannot attend the meetup event. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this change. Bootstrap your ideas is a great topic though and will be presented by one of our best web development trainers at Academy Class - Tomas Danilevicius. About the new topic: Bootstrap your ideas A tool, a library, a framework: Bootstrap offers a quick, easy and, most of all, cheap way to bring your idea online over a weekend. Mobile first, responsive, grid based tool designed primarily to keep you focused on business logic rather than wasting time building user interface. All you need is some basic HTML knowledge and this introduction to available features. Tomas Danilevicius: Tomas has been working as a web developer for over 8 years, building everything from small personal portfolios and email templates to a huge social network serving millions of users. It would take a full page to list all the technologies, libraries and tools that Tomas has worked with throughout his career. He is an expert in both front-end and back-end web development and will answer any questions regarding the differences between the two. Topic 2 Harnessing the power of Panic Driven Development Through the decades software developers have been prescribed development processes enforced by project managers and leads. Waterfall, XP, SRUM, TDD, BDD, Agile. But when going gets tough we always revert back to our natural state being… Panic. So how can we harness the natural state of the developer? We have developed a new development process that capitalises on the raw development power of a developer in a zen state of Panic. Welcome to Panic Driven Development Presented by: Phil Bennett ------------------------ After the meetup we would like to ask the attendees to join the speakers and organisers for a few pints at a local pub, where you'll have the chance to discuss the topics further and do a bit of networking which these events should be all about.

  • Setting Up Your Very Own Development Environment
“What to use?”, “Why we need it?”, “How it works?” and “How to set it up?” are common questions we get asked in every training class. There are plenty of reasons why working on a separate development environment is a good idea and hopefully one will get to know all the answers. In this session we will introduce virtualization and benefits using it for development. we'll do our best to explain how it works and how to easily set it up on your machine. Furthermore, a hands on follow up session at a later day will be announced for those willing to know even more about VirtualBox and possible automation using Vagrant. The event will be covered by Tomas Danilevicius. Tomas has been working as a web developer for over 8 years, building everything from small personal portfolios and email templates to a huge social network serving millions of users. While it is really hard to keep up with all the new technologies and tools coming out each and every day, nevertheless this fact is seen as a challenge for Tomas who is always searching, experimenting and applying new techniques in projects and training courses. He is an expert in both front-end and back-end web development and will answer any questions regarding the differences between the two.
