A chance to photograph one of London’s best gourmet markets. Not only photograph the food displays – fish, cheese, cakes – but the stallholders and the shoppers themselves.
The Victorian market is next to the Gothic Southwark Cathedral and the Shard. The plan is to meet early at 9 am when the market is open but not crowded, which it will be by midday.
This will give us time to go around the stalls with space to photograph close and from a distance. It will be best to bring a zoom lens for flexibility to allow you to take pictures close up or from afar and avoid having to change lenses.
This is a great place for street, still life and candid photography.
As usual the organisers will be on hand to help you with your camera settings or tips on composition if needed.
A zoom lens is best for flexibility, anything between 18 - 200mm.
As it is undercover with limited light you will need to consider ISO settings.
We will meet at the main entrance, as in the first picture above.
The Market address is
8 Southwark Street, London, SE1 1TL
Exit the tube by following any sign for Borough Market and you should exit right opposite the market entrance.
The market is mostly covered but still very open so wear warm clothes.
Check the TFL for any travel disruptions that might affect your journey on the day.
We plan to finish walking the market at 1200 and convene in a local establishment for refreshments and discussion.
