Dear Animal Friends, another volunteer work day at F.R.I.E.N.D. is up on this Sunday!!
To those who haven't been at F.R.I.E.N.D. before, this is a vegan run Animal Rescue Sanctuary which provides a permanent home to around 150 abused, unwanted and orphaned farmed animals, so they can live peacefully for the rest of their lives. As well as farmed animals, this place is also providing shelter to many other animals including cats and dogs and other "pet" animals.
F.R.I.E.N.D. Animal Rescue Sanctuary is run by Marion and Marc who solely rely on the support of donations and volunteers and do not receive any public funding. However, they work very hard to make sure that the animals are well looked after and cared for.
Despite the work being a proper work out as there is always lots to do, these visits are a chance to actually interact with many animals that have been rescued from the farmed animal industry and meet like-minded people who want to help them too.
The work we are usually doing at F.R.I.E.N.D. includes feeding, mucking out and/or doing sanctuary maintenance work. So you will need wellies, a change of trousers/top and GLOVES (!).
We are also usually having a break around lunchtime and as you might get hungry please bring vegan (this is a vegan place therefore vegan food only) snack or something for everyone to share. Please let everyone know in the comments below if you prefer to share or bring your own so those who want to share know how much food to bring. There is also a microwave if you want to heat up your food. Coffee and tea is usually already there.
Last but not least when at FRIEND please keep in mind a few things in regards to the animals:
Please ask Marion or Mark first if you want give treats to the animals – not all animals can eat everything and some foods could affect their health and wellbeing – even if it's vegan.
Please be mindful and don't tease the animals when interacting with them – they are rescued animals and they may have had bad experiences in the past.
Unless you're driving down with your own car we meet at Charing Cross station at 9.00 - by the ticket office. Please bring a £5 note and some pound coins for the fare. The fare is approximately £8.55 each if 4 go group save or if there is an 'odd one over' then they pay the full fare and we share the difference - usually this is around an extra £2-3.
Please arrive as promptly as you can as we have to work out how many for the fare before getting the tickets and on the train!
We will be picked up and brought back to the station as a group therefore it is important to arrive at Paddock Wood Station together / at the same time – unless you don't need a lift / have your own car / bike / moped.
We will leave around 5.30 pm in the summer months – probably earlier in this time...

Thank you in the name of the F.R.I.E.N.D. animals!
