What we're about

Hello...

Welcome to London Weekend Walks.

If you're looking for short weekend walks in London (approx. 2 hours at a steady pace) then this group is for you. Our walks are open to all, they are interesting and fun and offer you a chance to socialise with new people and see more of London. Walks will go ahead whatever the weather so if it's raining please do wear appropriate clothing. Most walks will be on pavements so won't be muddy. Some will be through parks.

Our pace will be leisurely and we will try and explore different and interesting parts of London. And we'll try and end in a good pub for an optional post-walk drink for those of you who'd like to stay and chat.

Open to all. All ages - all abilities. Children are very welcome and dogs are welcome too.

All walks will start and end near a tube station so are easy to get to and depart from. We will always allow 10 minutes at the start of every walk for everyone to arrive. We make a small charge per person for each meetup event (payable in cash at the start of the meetup) to cover our expenses and time in organising the meetup.

We also have a WhatsApp broadcast list so you can receive a single message via WhatsApp around a week before a walk is coming up. This is not a group so you wont receive endless messages, nor can other people reply to the list or see your mobile number. It is a simple list and when a walk is coming up I send out a message via WhatsApp to advise everyone of the walk details. If you'd like to join this list please send a message to me (Kumar) via the Meetup website or app with your mobile number.

So if you want to have some fun, see more of London, socialise, chat to other people, get some exercise and go on nice walks in London then join us.

Best,

Kumar

GROUP WALK: Richmond to Kingston along the Thames & drinks in a nice pub after

This is a really good way to get some exercise, chat to new people, make friends, socialise, get some fresh air and see interesting parts of London. DESCRIPTION OF THIS GROUP WALK: We will meet outside Richmond station at 1:30pm and will set off for the walk at 1:40pm. Our walk will take us through Richmond to the Thames, along the south side of the lovely Thames path with views across the river to Twickenham, through Petersham Meadows, past Ham House and then passing through scenic Ham. This is where the Thames takes on a more rural feel and is lovely in the spring. As we continue our walk we will have views across the river to Teddington. The walk will finish in the bustling town of Kingston-upon-Thames around 4pm. After the walk, you are welcome to stay for a drink to socialise with the rest of the group at a pub in Kingston. The walk is about 5 miles (slightly longer than my usual walks). Dogs are welcome and so are children (at no cost). COST: The cost of this walk is £3, payable on the day in cash - to contribute towards the organiser's meetup fees, time and costs. TIMINGS: The walk will take around 2 and a half hours. WEATHER: This walk will go ahead whatever the weather but hopefully it will be sunny! PUB AFTERWARDS (optional): After the walk finishes, we are going to a lovely riverside pub in Kingston (the Boaters Inn, KT2 5AU) where I have reserved tables. It also has outdoor space we can use if the weather is nice. LEAVING UNNECESSARY COMMENTS: If you find that you cannot come on this walk, just RSVP "Not Going". There is no need to leave a comment as this can generate unnecessary notification emails for everyone else who's RSVPd. OTHER WALKS I AM LEADING: For a list of other walks to come on please see https://www.meetup.com/londonweekendwalks/events/ ============== TERMS: Most (if not all) of the points below are common sense but I need to specify them here as I get a lot of queries: 1) Our walking pace is around 3 miles per hour. Please ensure you can walk from start to finish comfortably within the times stated at this pace. I have a table reservation at the pub at the end of the walk and if the group is late the reservation may be cancelled, so I stick to the exact timings. 2) You are responsible for your own safety. Please be careful especially when crossing roads and only cross pedestrian crossings on the green man. Please be careful on uneven surfaces. I take every care to lead walks along footpaths or in parks and crossing at suitable crossing points so there are no additional risks to yourself other than what you would normally encounter walking around London. 3) You are responsible for keeping up with the group leader. If you are far behind, I will try and slow down and I also build in occasional pauses but please try to speed up and catch up if you are at the very back. 4) You are responsible for keeping an eye on the group leader to avoid taking a wrong turn (yes, it happens and I cannot always send a search party!). 5) Please bring water / medicines as is appropriate for your own needs. 6) Please dress appropriately for the weather so you are warm, dry and comfortable. 7) There may not be the option for a toilet break during the walk so please bear this in mind. 8) If you arrive late for the walk, we may have set off as it is not fair to keep others waiting for latecomers. If you are late - try and catch up. 9) I very rarely cancel my walks (in fact, I don't recall a time I have cancelled a walk I am leading) but I reserve the right to cancel the walk, or amend any part of the walk, at any time and without notice and without any liability to any walker whatsoever. By attending this walk you confirm that you agree to, and accept, the Terms stated above. The Terms make this group sound boring, but we are a fun and sociable group. I have to include these for necessity. ============== I look forward to seeing you on the walk. Best, Kumar

A day out in Bournemouth (and a 1 night stay over)

Waterloo Station

£120.00

So a number of my regular walkers have requested that we go away somewhere of of London...... so I bring you.... a wonderful day out in lovely Bournemouth. We can chill on Bournemouth beach, explore Bournemouth pier and Boscombe beach, check out the lovely gardens, go out for dinner somewhere...and more! Date/Time out: Friday 8th March leaving London approx 7:15pm Date/Time back: Saturday 9th March arriving into London 8pm FRIDAY: We will meet at London Waterloo station on Friday 8th March at 7:15pm. We'll then take the train to Bournemouth arriving just after 9pm and then a taxi to our B&B. We have a 1 night stay in a 3-star B&B near the beach. We can go out in Bournemouth on Friday night (optional) or have an early night. SATURDAY: Saturday morning we'll have breakfast at the B&B (say at 9am). Then during the day we can walk along the golden sands of Bournemouth beach, see Bournemouth pier, explore Boscombe beach, walk in the Upper Gardens and Central Gardens. If you want to relax on the beach you can do that too. Bouremouth is a great town and a really lovely place to spend some time, enjoy the beach and get some good fresh Dorset air. I will find a suitable place for lunch. If you have any specific requirements please let me know but I was thinking of a nice cafe with a good lunch selection so suitable for all - or we could go for fish and chips. We can also go for an afternoon coffee somewhere around 3pm. There are a number of optional things to do, such as: - play crazy golf in the Lower Gardens (£4.40) - cycle on a tandem - see the birds at Bournemouth aviary (free) - see the art at Westover Art Gallery (free) If you want to spend some time and do your own thing (or pair up and do something with someone else in the group) then I will share my location on WhatsApp and give you my number so you know where we are at all times. I am keeping the numbers limited to 12 people (Barbara and I plus 10 others). If the meetup is full feel free to join the waitlist in case there is a cancellation. The total cost per person is £120 and this includes the return train from London to Bournemouth, taxi to the B&B, 1 night stay in the B&B (own double room for single occupancy*), breakfast on Saturday morning, planning the activities for the Saturday and a taxi back to Bournemouth train station on Saturday. So all you need to do it just turn up and I will take care of everything. As I am making payments for the train and B&B in advance (which are non-refundable) I will need full payment from you to confirm your place. Payment is not refundable I'm afraid (unless I cancel the meetup in which case you will get 100% refund) but there may be someone on the waitlist to take your place. *If you would like a double room for 2 people please message me and I will arrange this (subject to availability at the B&B). Please ensure that you are on time for the train and the taxis - as the train will not wait. If you have any requirements let me know and I will try my best to accommodate these. Looking forward to seeing you in Bournemouth. Kumar
