• GROUP TREASURE HUNT: The Mysteries of Waterloo

    Festival Pier

    £10.00

This is a fantastic, fun and challenging group treasure hunt in the streets around Waterloo and the Thames. You'll find clues located among the buildings, parks and side streets and nearby areas. The treasure hunt is aimed at adults but children over 8 will also enjoy it too and can help out. You need to be a good collaborative team player, sharp, energetic and sociable to enjoy this treasure hunt. I will divide people up in to competitive and non-competitive teams as per your preference - so if you'd like to do the treasure hunt without competing against other teams you can do so. THE PLOT: During recent building work around Waterloo, the builders found an old treasure chest but they were dishonest builders and they stole it. Lord Loo of Water has some clues and would like teams of people to work out where the treasure is so the police can retrieve it. Can you help Lord Loo of Water locate the treasure? DESCRIPTION OF THE GROUP TREASURE HUNT: We will meet at 2pm at Festival Pier (which is by the Thames in front of the Southbank Centre). It is near to postcode SE1 8XZ but the postcode doesn't exactly pinpoint festival pier - so come to the Thames to find the pier. After a debrief, and maybe a couple of tips, you will be split into teams, introduced to each other and then head off as a group with the clues to locate the treasure chest. The treasure hunt is not easy so you will need your thinking caps on and your minds will need to be sharp and focused! You will be searching high and low in and around the nearby streets. If you are really stuck, help is available (as a last resort!). You will need to solve the clues as a group and hopefully the collective brains of your group will be able to find the location of the stolen treasure. There will be no group leader - you all have to work together as a team. This is an exciting and fun treasure hunt and you may see parts of central London you didn’t even know existed. It is not soooo hard that you won't be able to do it. If you chip in, think, work as a team, look high and low and use the help and tips provided on the day you'll be able to locate the treasure. But.... can you be the first team to locate it? ;) Once you have solved all the clues, and have worked out the location, you will need to Text/WhatsApp your answer to Kumar. Then your team will need to get to the pub for the winning team to be announced. *RISK WARNING* - the roads around central London are very busy so please cross all roads carefully and safely and ensure you cross at the green man where available. START POINT and TIME: We will meet at 2pm SHARP at Festival Pier (which is by the Thames in front of the Southbank Centre). It is near to postcode SE1 8XZ. I am an Indian-looking man with glasses and will be holing a Meetup sign. END POINT and TIME: You should end around 4pm at a pub near Waterloo. PUB AFTERWARDS: At the end of the treasure hunt, you will need to join your group in the pub for the winning team to be announced. You can stay in the pub (optional) for some post-treasure hunt socialising and share the experiences you have had whilst on the treasure hunt. We will be meeting at Bar Topolski,[masked] Concert Hall Approach, SE1 8XU. COST: The cost of this treasure hunt is £10 per adult (payable in cash on the day at the start of the meetup) to contribute towards the organiser's meetup fees and costs and time in arranging and planning the treasure hunt. For children under 16 the cost is £3 each. • Brighton Day Trip: the beach, the lanes, Brighton Pier, fish & chips and more!

Who's up for a day trip to Brighton? We will explore the North Laine Bazaar, then The Lanes (narrow cobbled alleyways which formed the early town of Brighton and now have some funky small independent shops and stalls) after that we'll head to the beach, have fish and chips for lunch and then walk along Brighton beach for some sun and fun! We'll also explore Brighton Pier (when I went last year a seagull slapped me around the head and face and ate my prawns so we have to be vigilant!). We'll find a nice pub for some drinks and we'll take regular breaks throughout the day so it's not all walk, walk walk! As we have a large group my wife, Barbara, will be a back-marker. START POINT AND START TIME: We will meet at 9:50am SHARP at London Bridge station. Go through the ticket barriers and meet outside Leon next to platform 8. Please meet on time as we need to catch the 10:15 train to Brighton. END POINT AND END TIME: We will catch the 18:26 train back arriving into London Bridge at 19:34. TRAIN TICKETS: Please buy your own train ticket in advance. Tickets you need to buy: Out 10:15 London Bridge to Brighton (arrives 11:19) Return: 18:26 Brighton to London Bridge (arrives 19:34) Return currently costs £12.50 (Super Off-Peak Day Return on ThamesLink). The following link should take you to the ticket selection page on ThamesLink: https://tinyurl.com/y5ufb2l5 GROUPSAVE TICKETS are available. Instead of £12.50 a ticket, 4 or more tickets are £8.25 each (return). You will have to buy these at London Bridge station on Saturday morning as a group. I am not sure if train prices may increase between now and Sat. If they do not increase, it will save you £4.25 but then you have the added hassle of meeting others, queuing and buying the tickets as a group and paying separately. If you wish to do this, then I cannot be there at 09:30 so you will need to organise this with others. I suggest you meet at 09:30 outside the ticket office doors on the lower concourse, form a group and buy your tickets. You will need to find and ask others there if they are on this meetup. ALTERNATIVE TRAVEL TO BRIGHTON If you wish to make your own travel arrangements to Brighton (such as travelling from Victoria, Croydon, Clapham Junction etc) please feel free. Please ensure you get to Brighton by 11:15am and meet us inside Brighton train station in the corner by WH Smith and M&S at 11:20. Our train from London Bridge arrives into Brighton at 11:19 so you will need to meet us then by WH Smith / M&S at 11:20 as we will not be hanging around. LUNCH, SNACKS, PUB: We will go for fish and chips by the beach around 1pm. If you do not fancy fish and chips then you are welcome to go to a different eatery of your choice (there are loads of food outlets nearby) and you can meet back at the fish and chip place. I will give my number to any of you who go elsewhere so you can be sure to meet us after lunch. You can even bring a packed lunch if you like. It's entirely up to you what you prefer. I cannot resist Brighton's fish and chips though! Also, in the afternoon along the pier and beach there are plenty of food places. I will definitely be getting my mixed seafood snack on the pier (and avoiding the thieving seagulls). We will stop for snacks along the way. Pub: From 4:30pm we can go to The Mesmerist pub, 1 Prince Albert St, Brighton, BN1 1HE before we get the train back. COST: The cost of this walk is £5 payable in cash on the day at the start of the meetup. Plus the cost of your train tickets. WEATHER NOTE: The meetup will go ahead whatever the weather. RISK WARNING Seagulls LEAVING COMMENTS: Please only leave comments if absolutely necessary. NO SHOWS: Please don't be a Dosey Doris or a Dopey Dennis! If you say you are coming then cannot make it, please update your RSVP to "Not Going". END POINT and END TIME: We will end around 3:30pm at the Lass O'Richmond Hill pub which is near the start point (this is a circular walk). PUB AFTERWARDS (optional): After the walk finishes, you can join the group in the pub for some post-walk socialising and to continue the conversations you may have started during the walk. We will be going to the Lass O'Richmond Hill pub, 8 Queen's Rd, Richmond, TW10 6JJ where I have reserved an area indoors - and they also have an outdoor area at the back. LEAVING COMMENTS: If you find that you cannot come on this walk, just RSVP "Not Going".
