We're thrilled to have Donald Winchester, kingpin agent at Watson, Little, with us to talk about the editorial approach he takes when recommending changes to any piece of work with his clients. Most literary agents will to want to make their own edits to your work before they submit it to publishers, and Donald is going to tell us more about what they might request after taking you on as a new client.

He'll talk about the levels of the editorial process in detail and how he works with his authors to ensure their books are snapped up by commissioning editors.

Donald may touch on what an agent does, and what he's looking for in a new clients but this talk is focused on the editorial changes that an agent may recommend to new authors. NOTE: It's not the right event to ask for submission advice, how to write a cover letter or the basics of how to find an agent. I want us to find out as much as we can about how agents edit manuscripts with their clients in this session. Cheers!

About Donald Winchester:
After splitting his childhood between Edinburgh, Ohio and Watford, Donald gained a BA in English and History at Queen Mary, University of London and a MA in English Literature from University College London. He began his publishing career at Penguin Press – working on a variety of non-fiction titles – before moving to A P Watt. There he worked for five years with a number of acclaimed and prize-winning authors and began building a list of fiction and non-fiction for adults. He joined Watson, Little as an agent in 2013. He is currently the Secretary of the Association of Authors’ Agents (AAA).

Donald is building his list and is interested in literary and well-written commercial fiction – particularly debut authors – as well as memoir and writing on history, popular science, nature, music, sport, film and technology.
