Meet Agent Harry Illingworth of DHH Literary Agency as he tells us how to create a pitch that stands out from the rest and take the opportunity to test out your own pitch on a professional agent.

When you're submitting to agents (or indie publishers), you'll need to write a cover letter that includes a one-paragraph 'elevator' pitch. It's the paragraph that sells your story to anyone who reads your letter.

Harry will help you craft your pitch from an agent's perspective by showing you how to define your story's hook, what information to include and, perhaps most importantly, what not to include! He will then hear some of your pitches, discussing them live to give you the best chance of writing a winning pitch for your book. Exciting!

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain professional input on pitching to agents. Even if you don’t read yours out, you will take away plenty of crucial advice that can be applied to your own submissions.

Harry is an agent at DHH literary agency, where he specialises in genre fiction. He is also marketing manager at Goldsboro Books. His list includes bestselling and prize-winning authors, ranging from crime and thriller to sci-fi and fantasy. He is looking for genre-bending novels with commercial crossover appeal, especially speculative fiction, and strong high-concept crime and thrillers with an original narrative and voice. He loves science fiction and fantasy of all kinds, especially gritty and epic. Read more about Harry: http://www.dhhliteraryagency.com/harry-illingworth.html and follow @HarryIllers
