Run Strong Vermont Disaster Relief Trail Run

Hey Guys!

I am helping to organize a great race at Bolton Valley and thought you might be interested in hearing about it. It is a 5k trail run, starting and ending at Bolton Valley's sports complex. All proceeds are going to Rebuild Waterbury, to assist those affected by Hurricane Irene last year. Here are details off of the group who is putting this together as well as event details off of the website, and I have added links to social media, the event site and registration at the bottom:

Organization Details:
Run Strong Vermont is a group of federal and contractor employees associated with the Department of Homeland Security who are interested in supporting our local community’s recovery from Hurricane Irene. The goal of our first annual Run Strong Vermont 5K event is to focus on supporting the continuing needs of individuals within the Waterbury area affected by Hurricane Irene.

Last September we coordinated an immediate response to Irene recovery by volunteering our time and collecting and distributing thousands of pounds of food and supplies to difficult to reach Vermont communities. It was during this effort that we appreciated how local small scale events can make a considerable impact on a community. Additionally, other group members spent days within the Waterbury community helping families clean out their homes and bring them to a livable state. We are excited to continue that support and help meet the objectives outlined by ReBuild Waterbury.

Event Details:
A 5K trail run on the Nordic Trails at Bolton Valley. The race will start out at the Sports Center and wind it’s way through 3.1 miles of moderate uphill and downhill elevations. There will be mud and varied trail conditions.
The trails will make for a great challenging event and test your skills as you climb hills, run along the streams and enjoy the scenery. If you only do one trail run in your life, this is the one you should do - it is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.
Please note walking up steep or slippery terrain is acceptable.

All proceeds from the run will be donated to ReBuild Waterbury, which is assisting individuals and families who are in need of help to rebuild their homes from the disaster-caused effects of Tropical Storm Irene. ReBuild Waterbury provides help so that individuals and families have safe and decent housing.
Your participation in the race is about more than just you, it is about giving our neighbors a chance to recover.
The race is open to all types of competitors (super athletes, runners, and weekend joggers). The race is a timed event, (limited age categories) with emphasis on FUN. There will be cool t-shirts, great prizes and an event raffle for all runners. There will also be a silent auction. Some of the prizes/raffle/auction items donated so far are:

*The Reservoir: $70 Gift Certificate
*Golden Eagle Resort: 6 month membership to Fitness & Spa ($295 value)
*Green Mountain Inn: one night stay and breakfast for two ($250 value)
*Stoweflake: 2 overnight stays including breakfast & dinner & a spa treatment (2 @ $500 value each)
Individual Age Brackets:

• "Teens" ages 13 to 18
• "Young Adults" ages 19 to 35
• "Mid Lifers" ages 36 to 49
• "Seniors" ages 50+

The race registration fee is $35.00. And all proceeds are being matched, dollar for dollar, by the Stiller Foundation– doubling the value of your entrance fee!
