If you are looking for a high-intensity, outdoor workout with a wonderful group of motivating people join the TNT Ultras Running Club. The Griffith Park trails are our platform; a great area to workout, build strength, and endurance! You will cover more miles in one night than most do over a weekend.
The club members are motivating, the views are amazing, and being outside feels great! Individually we push the pace as the group heads toward Mount Hollywood and at the peak we marvel at the view a few minutes before blazing back to the parking lot.
TNT are intense, fast-pace workouts, Start-To-Finish. Please read all of the details before signing up.
Are you trying a TNT workout for the first time?
• You MUST attend Week #1 or #2 before trying Week #3 or #4
• Any "newbies" that sign up for Week #3 or #4 may be denied attending
• Only those able to RUN 5-miles without breaks may start at Week #3
The group moves fast on Week #3 and Week #4, covering at least 7-miles and over 2000 feet of elevation gain. The pace is very fast and the workout time is 2-hours or less. From past experience with most "newbies" to the group, we realize that the distance and pace on the third and fourth week are to much for most people that are only used to "fast hiking".
Please adhere to this request. We want people to come out and get a good workout but do not want people to be discouraged because they attend on a night that is too difficult.
The Nitty-Gritty: TNT are interval training running workouts, high-intensity, & fast pace start-to-finish, The group typically start as one and around the 1 to 2 mile marker the group splits. The Ultras (Advance Ts) will always do more miles and elevation gain every week. The second TNT group will try to match the Ultras' speed but we will stick to the Monthly Plan (details below). Each group is typically in small clusters during the intervals (climbs, speed sections, etc.) and individually not far apart. There are quick recover points (brief stop or brisk walk) and a short break at the top but the groups enjoy moving fast Start-to-Finish.
The last Tuesday of the month should NOT be your first time.
Week #1- DYNAMITE LIGHT Considered intro to TNT workouts. Shortest route of the month but trying to keep pace with the Ultras will make you sweat. Averages: 5.5 to 6 miles, gain 1000' to 1300', steady ascend to the peak, & speed work. The Ultras will do more miles and gain.
Week #2 - TRAIL BLAZERS' DELIGHT You tried week #1 & it was a great workout, it was the good kind of pain, & the high-intensity pace was hard but it was fun moving fast. Averages: 6 to 7.5 miles, gain 1200' to 1500', 1 to 2 steep climbs, & speed work.
Week #3 - BLAZE TO GLORY Keeping pace with the Ultras is hard work, you know what it takes, and you enjoy it. AVG: 6.5 to 7.5 miles, gain 1400' to 1900', 2 to 3 steep climbs, & speed work. Tonight is not for first timers. The Ultras will typically do more miles and gain.
Week #4- Zoom-Zoom-Kaboom! TNT workouts are dynamite and you need plenty of might tonight to keep the group tight. This week we trail blaze more miles in two hours than most do over a weekend. AVG: 7 to 9 miles, gain 1500' to 2400', gain & speed work.
Weekly Bonus: climb south face of Mount Hollywood
