This 5.5 mile loop beach hike is FLAT. No elevation gain AT ALL. No rocks, no scrambling, no poison oak, no dirt. Just sand and surf, off shore breezes, and a sunset at 7:48 PM.
Saturday's high is predicted to be 71, mostly sunny, and only a 10% chance of rain.
We start at the intersection of North Francisca Street and Herondo in South Redondo and head West to the beach. Take your shoes off to walk on the wet sand...and dip your toes in the water...to Manhattan Beach Pier then loop back on the strand to Pier Ave in Hermosa for a picnic dinner on the beach. Bring your own dinner or get take out from Paisano's Pizza (http://paisanospizzahb.com/home/) by the slice, Project Taco (http://www.projecttaco.com/), Subway or any other place that looks interesting. We'll stop at Puciago Gelato (http://paciugo.com/hermosa-beach/) (highly recommended) after the sunset, then head back to the cars.
Don't like walking in the sand? You can walk on the strand and meet up with us at Manhattan Beach Pier.
Although the hike ends at 8:30 or thereabouts, when your friendly hike leader leaves you to fend for yourself, you can extend your mini-vacation into the wee hours of the morning. The parking is unlimited and the nightlife is lively on Pier Ave. You can also walk or drive a short distance south to the Redondo Beach Pier to dance the night away.
~ 5.5 miles FLAT
~ 3.5 - 4.0 hours
Look for my fuschia (hot pink) Nike cap.
We leave at 4:30 SHARP so please leave yourself plenty of time to drive and park. I will be at the start between 4:00 and 4:15.
I will walk from 2515 Artesia Boulevard in Redondo Beach for an additional 5 miles RT, so a total of 10 miles for the day. Plenty of free parking here as well. This additional walk goes through a quiet residential area. If you want to join me on this leg of my hike, let me know. I'll leave around 3:00 and arrive at the hike start by 4:00.
What to bring:
• Quarters (you might need them for parking, but I doubt it)
• Sunscreen and hat
• A small towel or washcloth to dry your feet and wipe off any tar (oil) that sticks to them
• Something to eat (or you can buy takeout for our picnic dinner on the beach)
There's usually plenty of free street parking in this area.
LA Hiking Group Meetups are fun. Lots of friendly, single people, mostly 40+.
You can text me if you miss us at the start and I'll tell you where we are. [masked]
